Job Description
Northern Improvement is looking for a big rig driver with a great driving history, hauling heavy loads. Our new heavy haul driver will need to be able, or willing to learn, how to operate several pieces of heavy equipment in order to load the equipment on a trailer to haul. They will need to have knowledge of several different trailers and how to properly load and hook up.
The Heavy Haul Driver will drive a commercially licensed truck for the purpose of primarily hauling heavy equipment to and from specified destinations while performing duties in a safe and efficient manner. When not hauling heavy equipment, this position will haul aggregate materials.

Duties and responsibilities
- Perform pre-trip inspection according to DOT regulations. Must be able to kneel, reach, and maneuver under truck with approximately 2-feet of clearance to properly inspect and/or repair truck/trailer.
- Maintain driver’s log according to DOT regulations and complete timecards legibly and accurately.
- Comply with company and DOT Drug & Alcohol regulations.
- Comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations
- Follow supervisor’s instruction on material and/or equipment pickup and delivery procedures
- May be required to drive combinations with variety of trailers such as live bottom, end dump, pups, bottom dump, side dump, flatbed, or lowboy. Must be able to hook and unhook these combinations properly. Must be able to turn leg jacks up and down to lift or drop trailer.
- Ability to operate equipment to load onto trailer, or willing to learn
- Carefully plan routes to ensure that deliveries are completed in a timely manner
- Promptly report any traffic violations or road accidents to the supervisor
- Assisting in the loading and unloading of freight onto and off the trailer
- Maintain communication with dispatcher
- Keep the truck, and associated equipment, clean and in good working order
- All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations
Qualifications
- Three years of Commercial driving experience preferred
- Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
- Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment
Working conditions
