Compensation: $40.85-$61.50
Position Summary
Provides leadership, technical expertise, and oversight in the Nuclear Medicine Department, Cardiology, & Neurology. Performs and supervises diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures in accordance with physician orders, hospital protocols, and regulatory standards. Serves as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), ensuring compliance with all applicable state, federal, and accrediting body regulations regarding radiation protection and radioactive material handling. Supports departmental workflow, staff training, and performance improvement initiatives while promoting quality patient care and safety.
The Lead Tech Diagnostic Center & RSO assists the Director, Manager, and Supervisor with day-to-day supervision and coordination of assigned section personnel. Routine tasks include preparing departmental staff schedules, supply ordering and management, daily billing reconciliation oversight, and routine rounding and interventions for employees and patients.
Essential Functions
1. Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine Procedures (35%)
• Performs routine and specialized nuclear medicine exams including, SPECT, and planar imaging according to established protocols.
• Prepares, calibrates, and administers radiopharmaceuticals following ALARA principles and NRC/IDPH regulations.
• Verifies patient identification, clinical history, and physician orders prior to exams.
• Positions patients accurately and selects technical parameters to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
• Processes and transfers images to PACS, ensuring accurate documentation for physician interpretation.
2. Leadership and Supervision (25%)
• Assists Director, Manager, and Supervisor in daily supervision and coordination of Nuclear Medicine, Cardiology, & Neurology staff.
• Prepares and manages staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
• Provides mentorship, training, and orientation for new employees and students.
• Conducts routine rounding and provides interventions for employees and patients as needed.
• Participates in departmental initiatives, including performance improvement and accreditation activities.
3. Radiopharmaceutical Preparation and Administration (10%)
• Prepares, handles, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with safety regulations and facility protocols.
• Follows all NRC and state regulatory guidelines regarding radiation safety, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials.
• Assesses venous access and performs IV injections using safe and aseptic technique.
• Monitors patients for adverse reactions and takes appropriate action as needed.
4. Documentation, Charge Reconciliation, and Communication (10%)
• Completes accurate documentation in the EMR, including patient history, exam details, administered doses, and technical notes.
• Reviews and reconciles daily charges to ensure billing accuracy and compliance.
• Communicates critical or urgent findings to physicians promptly.
• Ensures compliance with Joint Commission and hospital documentation standards.
Responsible for providing direct observation of patients as directed by the nursing plan of care and under the supervision of the charge nurse and/or nursing manager.
5. Equipment, Supplies, and Quality Control (10%)
• Operates and maintains gamma cameras, dose calibrators, and associated equipment.
• Performs routine QC and calibrations per manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.
• Reports equipment malfunctions and coordinates service promptly.
• Orders, manages, and tracks radiopharmaceuticals and departmental supplies.
• Assists in developing and updating Nuclear Medicine, Cardiology, & Neurology policies, protocols, and procedures.
6. Radiation Safety Oversight (10%)
• Serves as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for the hospital.
• Maintains compliance with NRC, IEMA, and Joint Commission standards for radioactive materials use.
• Oversees radiation monitoring, exposure tracking, and safety training for staff.
• Maintains all required radiation safety documentation, audits, and licensure.
• Coordinates with Physicists, Regulatory Affairs, and leadership during inspections and audits.

Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree or 4 Years of Education/Training After High School
