We are seeking a highly skilled and client‑focused Partner with extensive experience in estate, wealth, and gift tax planning, trust and estate administration, and business succession planning. As part of the firm's long‑term strategic planning, this role will assume key client relationships and ongoing work within an established practice area, ensuring continuity for a well‑developed portfolio of sophisticated matters as a Senior Partner transitions toward retirement.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in federal and state transfer tax rules and a client‑focused approach. You will advise high‑net‑worth clients on gift, estate, and GST tax planning, trust modifications, charitable structures, and succession strategies, delivering solutions that balance technical precision with practical family considerations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners on:
- Complex estate and wealth transfer strategies.
- Asset protection structures and trust administration.
- Business succession planning.
- Charitable and philanthropic strategies.
- Identify and proactively advise on income, estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax issues.
- Draft and implement a wide range of planning documents, including:
- Revocable and irrevocable trusts.
- Generation-skipping transfer trusts.
- IDGTs, BDGTs, GRATs, and ILITs.
- Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.
- Collaborate with CPAs, wealth advisors, and family office teams to ensure coordinated planning across disciplines.
- Assist with family governance, family meetings, and multigenerational planning structures.
- Conduct legal and financial audits of existing client structures.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and strong academic record.
- Active bar membership in good standing in the District of Columbia.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in estate planning, wealth transfer, and/or trust and estate administration.
- Extensive knowledge of federal estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax rules.
- Proven ability to work with high-net-worth clients and navigate sensitive family dynamics.
- Excellent drafting and communication skills.
- Strong working knowledge of advanced estate planning and tax techniques.
- Experience with high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth clients and complex family dynamics.
- Comfortable managing multiple sophisticated matters with discretion and poise.
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and verbal communication skills.
- Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and client-focused environment.
- Commitment to client service and building trusted relationships.
Preferred:
- Active bar membership in good standing in Maryland and/or Virginia.
- Experience with decanting trusts.
- Exposure to closely held business succession issues.
- Prior work with family offices or cross-disciplinary advisory teams.
- Asset protection and entity structuring (e.g., LLCs, FLPs).
- Exposure to planning for real estate developers and other business owners.
- Willingness to maintain a physical presence in the DC office.

Target Salary Range: $350,000 - $750,000 annually. Salary decisions depend on a wide range of factors including but not limited to experience, training, expertise, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
