About This Position

POSITION SUMMARY

The Deli Clerk is responsible for providing consistently phenomenal customer service, creating delicious made-to-order food and beverages for customers, and maintaining attractive displays of products. This position upholds Co-op standards, including genuine customer service, departmental conditions, safety, productivity, and other workplace conditions, in a manner that upholds the values of Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op and the co-operative identity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Upholds all Co-op policies, procedures, and expectations.
  2. Department Operations and Customer Experience
  3. Exceed our customers’ expectations for service and provide a welcoming environment for all people and diverse backgrounds in accordance with the Co-op’s customer service standards.
  4. Model, provide, and ensure customers receive prompt, friendly, and courteous services in a professional manner that markets our cooperative advantage.
  5. Maintain a calm and friendly demeanor with all customers and in all situations.
  6. Ensure that product displays are maintained, full, clean, and attractive at all times.
  7. Produce food products that meet our standards of quality and quantity as defined by SNFC.
  8. Fulfill customer orders and serve all food items in a timely and efficient manner while following department procedures for pricing, packaging, and weighing.
  9. Consistently replenish products to ensure freshness and visibility.
  10. Help customers make product selections by answering questions and providing information about ingredients in all food items.
  11. Be willing to taste all food products produced by the food service and follow department procedures for tasting.
  12. Ensure accurate and sanitary product processing, packaging, labeling, dating, and pricing according to department procedures.
  13. Maintain a working knowledge of all menu items, ingredients, vendors, and products in all Food Service areas.
  14. Follow proper procedures for price changes, handling new products, and signage.
  15. Maintain a working knowledge of products and supply back stock, informing the management team of shortages.
  16. Check all hot and cold food temperatures in compliance with food safety standards.
  17. Maintain all documentation (logs, checklists, etc.) for each station.
  18. Prioritize time to ensure that prep work, stocking, cleaning, dishwashing, and customer service are handled efficiently.
  19. Assist in bussing duties as needed, keeping dining and patio areas clean and cleared of dishes and well-stocked with supplies.
  20. Clean and maintain work areas, including floors, facilities, utensils, and equipment; collect and place garbage, recycling, and compostable items in designated containers.
  21. Assist with all cleaning, dish washing, and other assigned food service duties.
  22. Follow department procedures for processing known loss, invoices, special orders, and transfers.
  23. Rotate all products using first-in, first-out (FIFO).
  24. Use equipment safely and properly in accordance with training for that specific equipment, and only use equipment you have been trained to use safely.
  25. Check chemical sanitation levels (PPM) on dish machine, sanitizer buckets, and report all discrepancies to management.
  26. Properly handle all chemical and sanitation products.
  27. Assist with any and all food preparation, including baking and dishwashing when needed.
  28. Clerk Duties
  29. Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when the shift begins.
  30. Wear proper clothing in accordance with the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op and department Dress Code during shift, including apron and nametag.
  31. Maintain accurate and attractive signage within the department.
  32. Keep the department orderly and clean.
  33. Other Duties
  34. Assist in inventory counts, storewide cleaning, and other projects as needed.
  35. Attend meetings and events as requested.
  36. Ensure equipment repair and maintenance is communicated to appropriate personnel and make adjustments until equipment has been improved.
  37. Demonstrate support for the cooperative values and principles daily.
  38. Perform other duties and work in other departments as assigned.
  39. Know and uphold the Employee Handbook consistently.
  40. Must be available to work hours based on the needs of the business and their department.
  41. Maintain and update California Food Handler’s Certification as requested by management.
Requirements:

  17. Use Email, website, and time clock software proficiently.
  18. Education
  19. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Desired knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience are not essential to be able to perform the essential duties of the position.

  1. Interest in learning or experience working within natural foods retailers and/or cooperatives.
  2. Previous experience in high-volume food production.
