The National Advanced Surface-to-Air System (NASAMS) is a highly mobile and tailorable capability that protects the airspace of 13 countries and Washington, DC. As a Sr. Test Engineer at Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, Inc. in Johnstown, PA, you will play a critical role at the intersection of engineering excellence and mission‑ready product performance. This position serves as the technical liaison between Manufacturing, Manufacturing Test, Quality Assurance, Development Engineering, and Field Service, ensuring that complex defense‑grade systems are built, tested, validated, and supported with uncompromising precision. You will lead root‑cause investigations, drive test strategy and continuous improvement, and translate engineering intent into robust, repeatable manufacturing and diagnostic processes. In this role, you become a key contributor to Kongsberg’s commitment to delivering reliable, high‑performance technology that supports and protects those who rely on our systems every day.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designs, develops and implements testing methods and equipment.
- Works with program management and development engineering to define test objectives, test management, test methodology and test resource requirements.
- Compiles data and defines changes required in testing equipment, test procedures, manufacturing processes or new testing processes.
- Investigates unusual conditions or undesirable trends.
- Prepares engineering reports on system performance and interacts with customers to impart a fundamental understanding of complexities within a technical application.
- Evaluate processes, identify issues and recommend best practices associated with test and/or test resources.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Associates degree required plus equivalent job-related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or higher preferred.
NUMBER OF YEARS AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Minimum 15 years of experience in an electronics or electro-mechanical test and evaluation environment required.
- Minimum of 20 years test and evaluation experience will be considered equivalent to degree plus experience.
- Experience in evaluating risks and lessons learned for test, integration and field activities.
MINIMUM LEARNING TIME FOR THIS POSITION PROVIDED EMPLOYEE HAS NECESSARY EXPERIENCE:
6 months.

- Bend/reach, hear, lift/move up to 50 pounds, operate a vehicle, see, sit, use hands to type or handle objects, walk. Ability to work with fine detail and distinguish color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
- Typical office setting. Occasionally work over 40 hours per week; composite toe and Electro Static Discharge (ESD) footwear (when entering the production area); Electro Static Discharge (ESD) Smocks (When entering the production area).
OTHER POSITION CONSIDERATIONS:
- Follow established confidentiality policy, safety standards, or applicable regulations.
- Knowledge of customer service best practices. Leadership and supervisory skills. Organizational skills.
- Knowledge of DOD major acquisition programs as well as analysis and testing of DOD systems. Knowledge of circuitry and programming.
- Knowledge of financial software, internet/e-mail, presentation software, spreadsheet software and word processing software.
