Data Engineering Lead

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Data Engineering Lead in the United States.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of modern marketing data infrastructure within a highly collaborative, AI-driven, and remote-first consulting environment. As a senior technical leader, you will define architectural direction, mentor engineers, and remain deeply hands-on in building scalable cloud-native data platforms that power analytics, reporting, and AI-enabled workflows. The position combines advanced data engineering expertise with leadership through influence, enabling you to guide platform evolution while improving engineering standards across the organization. You will work with cutting-edge technologies across GCP, BI systems, orchestration frameworks, and LLM-powered workflows to build high-performance solutions that drive measurable business outcomes. This role is ideal for a systems-minded engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, mentoring teams, and leveraging AI to accelerate innovation and operational efficiency. You will play a key role in modernizing data ecosystems and enabling smarter decision-making across analytics, strategy, and marketing functions.

Accountabilities:
  • Define and lead the technical direction, architecture, and long-term roadmap for the organization’s modern data platform and engineering ecosystem.
  • Architect scalable end-to-end data solutions across GCP services including BigQuery, Dataflow, Airflow, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Storage.
  • Design and optimize analytics and BI frameworks using dbt, LookML, Looker, and related visualization and reporting technologies.
  • Lead engineering best practices including test-driven development, CI/CD pipelines, version control standards, modular testing frameworks, and production deployment strategies.
  • Mentor and support data engineers and analysts through architectural reviews, code reviews, technical pairing, workshops, and continuous knowledge sharing.
  • Optimize platform performance, query efficiency, data freshness, operational scalability, and cloud cost management across large-scale data environments.
  • Design and implement AI-powered workflows and LLM-integrated engineering processes that improve research, automation, development throughput, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with analysts, strategists, and stakeholders to ensure data systems align with business objectives and client outcomes.
  • Document architectural decisions, onboarding materials, technical playbooks, and engineering standards that support long-term maintainability and scalability.
  • Lead proof-of-concept initiatives, refactor legacy systems, and drive platform modernization efforts that improve reliability and engineering productivity.
  • Influence engineering culture through technical leadership, communication, and operational excellence without relying on direct management authority.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience leading data engineering initiatives through technical expertise, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Expert-level knowledge of the Google Cloud Platform data ecosystem, including BigQuery, Dataflow, Airflow, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, Datastore, and Cloud Storage.
  • Strong experience designing scalable data architectures, production-grade pipelines, and modern cloud-native data platforms.
  • Advanced expertise with dbt, LookML, Looker, Looker Studio, and enterprise analytics frameworks.
  • Expert-level SQL skills with the ability to optimize, refactor, and scale complex data models and queries.
  • Strong Python engineering experience, including modular architecture, Pytest frameworks, TDD methodologies, and automated testing practices.
  • Extensive experience with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment strategies, and engineering operational best practices.
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI and LLM tools into engineering workflows, including prompt engineering, evaluation harnesses, and automation strategies.
  • Strong project management and Agile delivery experience with tools such as Wrike or equivalent collaboration platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both executive stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Strong analytical thinking, systems design expertise, and problem-solving capabilities within fast-paced and evolving environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change, and thrive in collaborative remote-first organizations.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of $120,000 to $130,000 based on experience and qualifications.
  • Remote-first work environment with flexibility to work from anywhere within the United States.
  • Optional access to a collaborative office environment in Philadelphia.
  • Annual compensation reviews and growth opportunities.
  • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI technologies, cloud-native systems, and modern analytics platforms.
  • Collaborative and inclusive culture focused on mentorship, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Work within a Certified B-Corp organization committed to social impact and responsible business practices.
  • Access to professional development resources, technical workshops, and AI-focused learning initiatives.
  • Flexible and supportive work environment promoting work-life balance and employee well-being.
  • Opportunity to contribute to large-scale, high-impact client initiatives across marketing, analytics, and AI transformation projects.
  • Inclusive workplace culture that values diversity, authenticity, collaboration, and long-term career growth.
