Job Description

Photographer

  • CHKD is seeking a Photographer to join our Marketing & Public Relations team. A minimum of 2 years' professional photography experience is required, including demonstrated skills in portrait, event, and/or documentary-style photography and a mastery of studio and on-location lighting equipment. Shifts may fluctuate from week to week and a set schedule is not guaranteed, as this position is structured at 40 hours every two weeks with the schedule based on events and photography demands of the organization. Flexibility needed.
  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Photographer is responsible for the production of high-quality photographs that support CHKD Health System's mission and strategic goals and enhance its regional and national reputation. The Photographer collaborates with other members of the marketing team to capture compelling visual imagery that tells meaningful stories and aligns with organizational messaging. Reports to departmental leadership.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Works with members of the marketing team as well as individuals from outside the department to plan and execute professional photo shoots. Assists in directing subjects to achieve desired compositions and outcomes.
    • Manages photo shoot environments, including lighting, composition, and logistics, to enhance the quality and visual impact of images.
    • Collaborates with marketing and communications staff to understand project goals and ensure imagery effectively communicates key messages to diverse audiences.
    • Considers target audiences when capturing and selecting images, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, mission, and strategic priorities.
    • Edits and retouches photographs using industry-standard software to meet quality, branding, and technical standards.
    • Ensures proper handling, setup, and maintenance of photography equipment and coordinates scheduling and logistics for photo sessions.
    • Organizes, catalogs, and maintains digital image files, ensuring technical compatibility and accessibility for distribution across platforms.
    • Ensures all photography complies with CHKD's brand standards, deadlines, budgets, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.
    • Carries out assigned responsibilities independently, seeking guidance from leadership in unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from policy or allocation of resources.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Required Education and Experience
      • Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Visual Arts, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
      • Minimum of 2–4 years of professional photography experience.
      • Experience working with studio and on-location lighting equipment.
      • Experience managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and working within budget constraints.
    • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      • Portfolio showcasing strong skills in portrait, event, and/or documentary-style photography.
      • Proficiency in photo editing and retouching software such as Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
      • Strong understanding of composition, color, and visual storytelling principles.
      • Familiarity with healthcare environments and sensitivity to patient privacy (HIPAA) is preferred.
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse subjects and teams.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
