Job Description
Summary/Objective: CNC machinists are responsible for operating multi-axis CNC machines on the factory floor. Machinist’s precision on output is vital and must keep maintenance on machine he or she is working on.

- Assists in set up and operate computer numerical control machines to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to required specifications.
- Assists in the review of setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece.
- Assembles cutting tools in tool holders per the set up sheet.
- Assists in setting machine for the following:
- Turning center – install chuck jaws or collet pads as required, place cutting tools in the turret or magazine as required and set various axis zero positions.
- Machining center – set fixture holding device, install tooling into magazine and set various axis zero positions.
- Swissturn – Assist in setting up barfeeder, load and set tools, operate machine
- Loads CNC program into machine with supplied media device.
- Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.
- Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
- Changes cutting tools and locations of work piece during machining process as specified in setup instructions.
- Measures work piece for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges.
- Following processing steps according to the engineered routing
- Enter labor transactions into labor tracking software
- Adhere to all safety requirements
- Understand and follow all 5S requirements
Competencies:
- Precision with machining input and output
- Able to adhere to safety requirements.
- Able to interpret engineering documents (such as mechanical prints, inspection and setup requirements).
- Machine data entry skills.
Work Environment: The performance of this position requires exposure to the manufacturing areas where loud sounds and vibrations are present. This may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to hold up to 50 lb. of weighted metal
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: The working hours for this position are typically Monday through Friday 6:00 am – 2:30 pm (Day Shift) 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm (Evening Shift)
Travel: No travel required for this position.
