Radial Solutions Inc.

RSi is looking to fill a HLS GFE Safety and Reliability (S&R); E3/E4 position to support our NASA customer. The GFE S&R Engineer provides Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) support to the Quality and Flight Equipment Division (NT) at NASA’s Johnson Space Center for GFE projects developed by NASA for NASA programs. This position's mission for individual GFE projects is to assure overall design and safety requirements robustness, to assure adequacy of the overall safety assessment (Hazard Reports and FMEA/CILs), and to provide engineering expertise toward the certification efforts that qualify mission functionality. Additionally, the GFE S&R Engineer will be expected to assist the project with anomaly resolution and to communicate any associated project risks up through the appropriate S&MA chain of command.

Summary of duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide project support across the full system lifecycle, including design, assembly, pre‑mission planning, integration, launch, flight operations, and return.
  • Participate as a key member of the project team and serve as the subject matter expert for GFE safety during design reviews.
  • Ensure proper definition of design and safety requirements and advise on appropriate testing and verification methods.
  • Apply risk‑assessment tools (Hazard Analysis, FMEA/CILs, Fault Tree Analysis) to identify hazards, determine root causes, and ensure effective controls and risk‑mitigation strategies.
  • Integrate and coordinate S&MA inputs from NASA stakeholders such as Engineering, Space and Life Sciences, Program Offices, and Flight Operations.
  • Review Testing and Verification Plans to confirm adequacy of safety controls and compliance with qualification, verification, and GFE certification requirements.
  • Deliver presentations to S&MA, project teams, and program management on safety assessments, risk summaries, and any dissenting opinions throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Minimum Education/Experience/Certifications:

  • Bachelors in Mechanical, Aerospace, Safety Engineering, or related discipline
  • 9 or more years' experience in engineering
  • Basic knowledge and use of personal computer with typical business software
  • Ability to work shifts periodically
  • Superb written and oral communications skills for frequent correspondence with project stakeholders and multiple layers of SAIC and NASA management
  • Excellent people skills along with demonstrated excellent professional behavior interfacing with customers and department management.
  • Understanding of JSC processes and requirements for the design, engineering, production and test activities of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) for utilization supporting human space flight for BOE development as well as the near real time operational support needs.
  • Familiarity with the NASA JSC GFE flight hardware life cycle and certification process
  • Detailed understanding of the purpose and operation of the various NASA review and approval boards and panels governing the acceptance of GFE hardware and software for human spaceflight application.
  • Must be willing to travel (< 5%), including possible international travel. If requested for international travel, then must be able to obtain a personal passport as required.

  • Ability to work effectively across multiple organizations / stakeholders and within a teaming environment to get result
  • Ability to work autonomously, with minimal management oversight, to prioritize work and accomplish tasks within tight schedule constraints
  • Ability to visualize, articulate, and condense complex issues into concise, easily understood presentations
  • Ability to generate high quality written technical reports and prepare and give high quality technical presentations for senior management and the customer

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office‑based work within an engineering or project team setting.

Physical Environment/Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while performing desk‑based analysis, documentation, and reviews.
  • Occasional standing or walking
  • Light lifting (typically up to 20 pounds)

Other: Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government issues credentials and IT access/applicants must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

  • You will be required to provide two (2) forms of Federal I9 documents.
  • You will be required to provide a REAL ID compliant identification to gain access to RSA and MSFC.
