Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Photonics Physics Package R&D in our Broomfield, CO location to support trapped-ion integrated photonics R&D team.
Our diverse team of engineers and scientists develops optics and integrated photonics technologies that enable scaling of our trapped-ion quantum computers from our current 98-qubit Helios system to our future Lumos system with hundreds of thousands of qubits. The data, designs, and expertise from our group inform our next-generation systems, from the overall architecture to the tiniest of details. We are looking for more collaborative engineers and scientists to join our cross-disciplinary team.
- Support the trapped-ion integrated photonics R&D effort through one or more of the following:
- Support the design, build, integration, and/or operation of cryogenic ultra-high vacuum (UHV) test systems used to evaluate and scale next-generation quantum computing technologies.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and assembly documentation for custom mechanical components, fixtures, and test hardware.
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists to fabricate, assemble, troubleshoot, and improve experimental ion trap test systems.
- Collect and analyze data to validate hardware performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Support root cause investigations and failure analysis activities to identify design improvements and enhance system performance.
- Contribute to design reviews, engineering documentation, and configuration management processes.
- Work closely with the Integrated Photonics team to design and build fixtures, tooling, and test hardware supporting photonic device characterization and validation.
