We have an exciting opportunity for a Supervisor of Engineering (SGL35) in Little Rock, AR.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position supervises a team that is responsible for providing the engineering design, permitting, right-of-way acquisition, and assisting construction management for the purpose of constructing and/or modifying natural gas transmission pipelines, distribution systems, facilities, and appurtenances for Summit Utilities Arkansas and Summit Utilities Oklahoma in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations and company policies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsible for supervising an engineering team in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws pertaining to hiring; determining department procedures; assigning and directing work; providing training; appraising performance; rewarding and providing positive corrective action when needed; resolving employee issues; providing input for and administering department budget.Responsible for mentoring and coaching team members and aiding in their professional development.Utilizes the application of extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering practices to plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate development of the engineering work for all design, modification, and/or construction of natural gas transmission pipelines, distribution systems, and related appurtenances.Responsible for preparation, evaluation and approval of engineering drawings, details, construction specifications, contract and bid documents, and contractor procurement, including selection and coordination with consulting engineers and vendors.Meets with general public and/or developers, landowners, interest groups, and regulatory bodies concerning zoning, expansion projects, and engineering regulations, etc.Accountable for the successful implementation and completion of engineering objectives in construction projects by managing project issues, budgets and schedules requiring numerous interactions with consulting firms, construction contractors, government officials, and other departments within the Company.Responsible for project status reports to Summit management team. Performs occasional field work to evaluate conditions, plan jobs, and assist construction management with compliance with company standards.Works closely with construction, procurement, outside consultants, and contractors to define the detailed project scope of work, and the goals and deliverables that support the company’s business objectives.Ensures the proper planning of capital and maintenance construction projects.Supports overall project performance (quality, scope, schedule, cost, communication, resource issues & risks).Manages long-term asset planning to support growth and system reliability through collaboration with Business Development and Operations and performing hydraulic modeling analyses.Provide all required engineering support to facilitate the safe and reliable operation of the natural gas transmission and distribution systems and provide engineering support to all other Company initiatives such as regulatory, rates, property accounting, and finance.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in Engineering from an accredited college or universityMinimum of five years of engineering experience involving pipeline design, project management, and construction administration.Licensed as a registered Professional Engineer

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Strong leadership and management skills demonstrated by using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide individuals or groups toward goal achievement.Ability to make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods.Project Management knowledge and skills exhibited by the ability to proficiently develop and complete a design plan while having the adaptability to make appropriate changes when required.Excellent organizational and planning skills required with demonstrated quality and thoroughness on each assignment. Exhibit high level of attention to detail in all facets of work.Advanced engineering knowledge including exceptional mathematical proficiency; expert computer skills in working with word processing, spreadsheet programs, enterprise work management systems, and other engineering software applications.Polished interpersonal/communication skills including outstanding verbal skills exhibited in meetings, one-on-one exchanges, and presentations. Appropriate written communication skills required for everyday correspondence and reviewing writing in a technical format.Ability to work effectively with others as the position requires a great deal of collaboration within the engineering department, construction teams, and various outside entities.Ability to coach and mentor others.Exhibits a high-level of personal initiative and motivation to multi-task many projects simultaneously.Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with cross-functional colleagues in a geographically dispersed organization.
