Specialized Forensic Unit PC is seeking a passionate and compassionate Art Therapist to join our growing team in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative professional who understands the power of artistic expression as part of the healing process. You'll work with diverse individuals and populations, using art-based therapeutic approaches to encourage self-expression, emotional regulation, personal growth, and improved mental health.

Our experienced clinicians deliver thorough, timely, research-based evaluations and evidence-based treatment that answer referral questions from courts, attorneys, correctional facilities, healthcare providers, and patients.

What You'll Do

As an Art Therapist, you'll use creativity and therapeutic techniques to help clients express themselves, develop coping skills, process emotions, and work toward their individual goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop individualized art therapy treatment plans based on each client's needs and goals.
  • Facilitate engaging individual and group art therapy sessions.
  • Use creative expression to promote emotional regulation, communication, self-awareness, and healing.
  • Incorporate appropriate creative modalities such as music, movement, recreational activities, and behavioral health techniques when beneficial.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust therapeutic approaches as needed.
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals, medical staff, caregivers, and other members of the care team.
  • Provide therapeutic support to diverse populations, including children, individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, dementia, hospice patients, and individuals receiving addiction services, as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
  • Participate in case consultations and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Stay current with developments and best practices in art therapy and behavioral health.

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Art Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Art Therapy certification or licensure, such as ATR-BC, preferred or eligible for certification.
  • Experience working with children, individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or mental health conditions preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavioral therapy techniques and their application in therapeutic settings.
  • Familiarity with clinical documentation and CPT coding for billing purposes.
  • Understanding of HIPAA compliance and confidentiality requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups across different ages, diagnoses, and backgrounds.

Schedule: This is a full-time hybrid position offering a combination of telehealth and in-person care. Primary in-office hours are Monday–Thursday, 11:30 AM–8:00 PM, providing the opportunity to work with children, families, and other clients during the times they are most available.
