EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Completion of an MRI training program to include the UTMB MR Training program
• Proficient in advanced interventional cases and MR diagnostic cases of the head, cardiac, prostate and breast
• 5+ years of experience

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS

• American Heart Association (BLS)
• American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT-MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Lead MRI Technologist is an experienced technologist competent in a variety of routine & complex magnetic resonance imaging procedures. This position is a member of the direct patient care & imaging leadership team. This position is a member of the direct patient care & imaging leadership team.

The Lead MRI Technologist serves under the direction of the imaging manager/Sr. manager and/or director, and is expected to function with initiative and creativity with the objective of department efficiency and technical excellence and safety. This person must demonstrate the ability to rely on experience to initiate proper judgment, manage multiple tasks, and engage as a department leader within a limited supervised environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Performs all essential job functions of an MRI technologist II in specialty area 50-80% of time.
• Lead Technologist administrative duties below are performed 20-50% of scheduled time.
• Provides leadership and supervision to staff in the absences of the site manager.
• Creates and manages staff schedule to include vacation/time off requests.
• Mentors junior team members, students, residents, & fellows.
• Assigns breaks and meal periods, while keeping the department adequately staffed.
• Reports and documents problems relating to staffing.
• Advocates and rounds on patient experience tool utilization.
• Provides new employee orientation of the department.
• Promptly escalates issues, which affect product delivery and quality.
• Utilizes AIDET incorporating Key Words and MANAGE UP techniques, when speaking to patients and family members at an age-appropriate level.
• Actively participates in departmental accreditation submission and maintenance.
• Monitors condition, care, and maintenance of imaging equipment.
• Adheres to and enforces prescribed standards of magnetic resonance safety.
• Participates and leads departmental performance improvement, QA/QC and quality control programs.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the events/occurrence reporting system. Uses system to reports patient safety issues.
• Accurately assess and critique images for diagnostic evaluation.
• Completes Kronos timecard maintenance.
• Performs daily, weekly and/or monthly departmental charge reconciliation.
• Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
• Leads departmental daily huddles.
• Participates and leads LEAN projects within department.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Exceeds all requirements of a MRI technologist II
• Can perform all special procedures.
• Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
• Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regards to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and utilizes positive body language.
• Ability to work independently; capable of handling challenging / difficult diagnostic procedures and patient care situations. Demonstrates sound judgment and executes above average clinical skills.
• Possesses basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems to include, Hospital / Radiology Information Systems and Office software to maintain patient and exam documents.
• Reinforces and advocates for team environment.
• Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision including, organizing workflow, and actively participating in problem-solving.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT

• Work attire is scrubs.
• Equipment you will be using:
  
  • Fixed and/or mobile MR imaging equipment of various vendors
  • Contrast Injectors
  • Electronic Health Record
  • PACS
• Employee may be asked to travel to other UTMB campuses.
• Employees are required to participate in call, weekend, holiday, and disaster team rotations to include emergencies and severe weather.
• May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, strong magnetic fields, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patients or others.
• Must be able to push or pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Must be able to walk long distances.
• Must be able to stand for a continuous 60 minutes at a time.
