The Opportunity

At The Joseph, every detail contributes to an exceptional guest experience. Our Engineering team works behind the scenes to ensure our guest rooms, restaurants, spa, public areas, and building systems operate beautifully, safely, and seamlessly.

We are seeking a skilled, dependable, and service-minded Engineering Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on position responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, completing repairs, and responding to guest and operational maintenance needs throughout the hotel.

What You'll Do
  • Respond promptly to guest room and operational maintenance requests, providing professional and courteous service.
  • Perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance throughout guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and mechanical areas.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical components, refrigeration equipment, lighting, appliances, and other hotel equipment.
  • Perform general maintenance duties including painting, drywall repair, caulking, carpentry, hardware repair, furniture repair, and minor cosmetic improvements.
  • Diagnose equipment and building-system issues and determine the appropriate repair or next course of action.
  • Complete assigned preventive maintenance inspections and work orders accurately and within established timelines.
  • Inspect guest rooms and hotel areas for maintenance deficiencies and proactively address concerns before they impact the guest experience.
  • Assist with maintaining kitchen, restaurant, public areas, spa, and other operational equipment as needed.
  • Maintain hotel equipment, tools, and Engineering work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Follow all OSHA, fire/life safety, lockout/tagout, and company safety procedures.
  • Document completed work, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance accurately within the hotel's work-order system.
  • Communicate outstanding repairs and significant equipment concerns to Engineering leadership.
  • Assist with emergency situations including leaks, power interruptions, HVAC failures, equipment malfunctions, and other urgent property needs.
  • Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Security, Spa, and other departments to resolve maintenance concerns quickly and professionally.
  • Assist outside contractors and vendors when necessary.
  • Support hotel energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.
  • Maintain the appearance and condition expected of a luxury hotel while minimizing disruption to guests and hotel operations.
What We're Looking For
  • Previous hotel, resort, commercial building, apartment, or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, and general building maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing common mechanical and electrical issues.
  • HVAC, EPA, or Refrigeration certification preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, meters, and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to perform painting, drywall, carpentry, plumbing, and other general repairs.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • Strong communication skills and a professional, service-oriented approach when interacting with guests and fellow team members.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of the Engineering team.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple work orders and respond appropriately to urgent situations.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, including days, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays based on hotel needs.
Physical Requirements

This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and working in various areas of the property. The Engineering Technician must be able to safely lift and carry equipment and supplies, climb ladders, use hand and power tools, and work in mechanical spaces and varying environmental conditions.

What Makes a Great Engineering Technician at The Joseph

Technical ability is important, but so is hospitality. A successful Engineering Technician understands that entering a guest room to repair an air-conditioning unit isn't simply a maintenance call—it's an opportunity to restore the guest's experience.
