Description:

Citrine is looking for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer, PE to provide senior technical leadership across our mechanical engineering projects while supporting and developing our mechanical engineering team. This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys both technical design work and mentoring others and is looking to take on a broader leadership role within a growing engineering firm.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer, PE will serve as a senior technical resource for commercial, industrial, and government projects, providing engineering guidance from design through construction and commissioning. In addition to leading complex mechanical design efforts, this role will help guide the work of mechanical engineers, designers, and technical staff, support project planning and workload coordination, and contribute to the continued development of Citrine’s mechanical engineering capabilities.

This is a full-time, exempt position is based in Colorado, with candidates ideally located near Lakewood or Grand Junction, CO. Hybrid work arrangements may be available. Travel to project sites, client locations, and other Citrine offices is required.

Requirements:
  • Serve as a senior technical leader for Citrine’s mechanical engineering projects, providing direction and support across varying levels of project complexity.
  • Lead and perform mechanical engineering design and analysis throughout all phases of project development, from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.
  • Provide technical direction, mentoring, and engineering guidance to mechanical engineers, designers, and technicians.
  • Develop mechanical system designs, calculations, layouts, specifications, equipment selections, and technical documentation in accordance with project requirements and applicable codes and standards.
  • Design and analyze HVAC systems, including heating and cooling systems, air distribution, ventilation, controls, and equipment selection.
  • Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, civil, and other engineering disciplines to identify and resolve design conflicts and ensure complete project integration.
  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, and other engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, quality, code compliance, and alignment with client requirements.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for complex design challenges, engineering decisions, and project issues.
  • Diagnose mechanical system issues and develop practical engineering solutions for existing facilities and active projects.
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, equipment assessments, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and construction observations.
  • Apply applicable building codes, engineering standards, and industry practices, including ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, SMACNA, NFPA, and other applicable requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, discipline leads, contractors, and clients to ensure mechanical scope is properly defined, coordinated, and executed.
  • Provide input on project staffing, workload, resource needs, and assignment priorities within the mechanical team.
  • Identify project risks, scope changes, technical challenges, and resource requirements and communicate them to appropriate project and company leadership.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, evaluating proposed changes, and providing technical clarification as needed.
  • Help foster a collaborative, accountable, and technically strong mechanical engineering team consistent with Citrine’s values.
  • Contribute to the growth and continued development of Citrine’s mechanical engineering services and capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with demonstrated experience leading complex projects, teams, or technical initiatives.
  • Experience providing technical direction, mentoring, or leadership to mechanical engineers, designers, or technicians.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems design and analysis for commercial, industrial, and/or government facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with HVAC systems, plumbing, piping, and mechanical equipment design.
  • Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, SMACNA, and other applicable industry standards.
  • Experience supporting construction, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, or field activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, project teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others, manage competing priorities, and support successful project delivery.
  • Ability to balance hands-on engineering responsibilities with team leadership and mentorship.

Background Check and Site Access

  • Candidate must successfully pass a background check, which may include verification of employment, education, and other records in accordance with state, local, and federal requirements.
  • A valid driver’s license must be possessed and maintained.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain access authorization for government and other secured facilities and sites is required.
