Histology Technician Lead in LONG BRANCH, New Jersey at RWJBarnabas Health

Summary of Job Function:
The Lead Histotechnologist oversees daily histology operations to ensure high-quality slide preparation, regulatory compliance, and efficient workflow. This role supports staff supervision, troubleshooting, quality assurance, and coordination with pathologists to maintain optimal turnaround time TAT.

Histotechnologist Lead Job Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the supervision of the histology laboratory and administrative assistant personnel.
2. Responsible for training new personnel.
3. Responsible for performance evaluations in lead area.
4. Responsible for development of new procedures and evaluation of new equipment and reagents.
5. Recognizes abnormal results, troubleshoots instrument problems and recognizes quality control problems.
6. Duties also include logging in, labeling and processing specimens, embedding, paraffin microtomy, cryostat microtomy, non-gynecological specimen processing, staining of slides, performing special stains and performing gross description of small biopsies according to protocol.
7. Coordinate preventive maintenance and service calls.

Education & Qualifications:
Education: BS degree in science from a regionally accredited college/university, with 24 science credits that include a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry in any combination.
Certification: Histotechnologist HTL ASCP or Histotechnician HT ASCP
Experience:
3-5 years Required
Histology lead/management: 1 year preferred
