Job Overview:
The Physician Assistant is an independent health care provider who coordinates inpatient/outpatient care through collaboration with the Physician.
The PA provides care in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/Physician Assistant Advisory Committee.
The PA will provide pulmonary care in the inpatient and outpatient setting. The primary role will be to assist with inpatient pulmonary responsibilities including collaborative care of new and follow up patients with pulmonary and sleep disorders.
Job Requirements:
- Physician Assistant Certification
- Registration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/ Physician Assistant Advisory
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Life Support (ACLS)
- Surgical experience preferred
- Although not required, fluency in Spanish, and other languages is a plus
Hours:
- Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
- Hours are subject to change based on department needs
Essential Functions:
- Coordinating care with pulmonologists and referring physicians
- Evaluating new consults and follow up visits in the hospital setting and documenting appropriately
- Ordering and follow up of appropriate testing
- Communicating assessment and plan on chronic respiratory failure patients at interdisciplinary rounds
- Interpreting results within scope of practice and disseminating test information to physicians and patients
- Advising patients on need for follow up care and facilitate scheduling with office staff
- Advising patients on medication use and side effects
- Prescribing in conjunction with physician input
- Assistance with coordinating and supervising procedures within scope of practice (bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, pulmonary function testing)
- Recognizes areas for improvement in divisional policies or patient care; initiates change; educate all involved in change
- Regularly communicates with physicians and staff concerning patient care issues
- Thoroughly explains procedures to patients prior to testing
- Provides appropriate patient teaching as necessary
