Staff Benchmarking HDP Researcher

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Benchmarking HDP Researcher based in United States.

This is a highly specialized research and technical leadership role at the forefront of quantum computing and hybrid algorithm development. You will lead advanced benchmarking and performance characterization efforts that directly shape how quantum-classical systems are evaluated and improved. The role blends independent scientific research with applied engineering, requiring deep analytical thinking and strong algorithmic expertise. You will design experiments, develop benchmarking frameworks, and translate complex results into actionable insights that influence system performance and product evolution. Working across multidisciplinary teams, you will collaborate with physicists, software engineers, and researchers to push the boundaries of hybrid quantum computing. Accountabilities:
  • Lead and execute advanced research initiatives focused on benchmarking, performance characterization, and optimization of quantum computing systems and hybrid workflows.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate quantum-classical hybrid algorithms, identifying opportunities for performance improvements and methodological innovation.
  • Develop and scale benchmarking frameworks, tools, and experimental methodologies to improve measurement rigor, reproducibility, and research efficiency.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of experimental results to identify system behavior patterns and guide technical and architectural decisions.
  • Critically evaluate academic literature and emerging methodologies, assessing technical validity, reproducibility, and relevance to system development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including physicists, engineers, and product stakeholders to integrate research findings into system improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance while contributing to best practices and evolving research standards.
Requirements:
  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in research and development, with a proven ability to independently lead complex technical initiatives.
  • Strong programming expertise in Python (C++ considered an asset).
  • Deep understanding of algorithm development, optimization methods, and related fields such as machine learning, statistical physics, Monte Carlo methods, or numerical modeling.
  • Proven ability to analyze, reproduce, and extend complex scientific research and experimental results.
  • Strong experience with data analysis, benchmarking, and statistical evaluation of system performance.
  • Excellent communication and scientific writing skills, with the ability to present complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines, influence technical direction, and mentor others.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a track record of delivering independent research outcomes.
