Overview

Reporting to the First Operations Manager this role is primary responsible for unloading parts at the Gemini machine, grinding and finishing metal parts, sorting and counting order quantities. The Production Helper may be assigned to any department to assist in meeting the needs of production.



Responsibilities

  • Unloading parts on the Gemini machine.
  • Grind and finish metal parts.
  • Sort and count order quantities.
  • Data entry and basic computer functions.
  • Select correct hand tooling for the job task with setup documents or supervisor/lead assistance.
  • Perform assigned work to time standards and quality expectations
  • Account for time and work completed via online computer data collection system.
  • Make routine decisions and use problem solving to resolve basic manufacturing issues or seek assistance.
  • Report and document basic material, production and quality control issues.
  • Maintain performance log books on assigned area equipment, report deficiencies to the maintenance team.
  • Participate in equipment preventative maintenance at the operator level.
  • Test and adjust machine speeds or actions, according to product specifications, using gauges and hand tools.
  • Load workpieces, plastic material, or chemical solutions into machines.
  • Read work orders or production schedules to determine specifications, such as materials to be used, locations of cutting lines, or dimensions and tolerances.
  • Install, align, and lock specified punches, dies, cutting blades, or other fixtures in rams or beds of machines, using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, and hand tools.
  • Position, align, and secure workpieces against fixtures or stops on machine beds or on dies.
  • Position guides, stops, holding blocks, or other fixtures to secure and direct workpieces, using hand tools and measuring devices.
  • Lubricate workpieces with oil.
  • Turn controls to set cutting speeds, feed rates, or table angles for specified operations.
  • Set stops on machine beds, change dies, and adjust components, such as rams or power presses, when making multiple or successive passes.
  • Plan sequences of operations, applying knowledge of physical properties of workpiece materials.
  • Mark identifying data on workpieces.
  • Grind out burrs or sharp edges, using portable grinders, speed lathes, or polishing jacks.
  • Place workpieces on cutting tables, manually or using hoists, cranes, or sledges.
  • Replace defective blades or wheels, using hand tools.
  • Adjust ram strokes of presses to specified lengths, using hand tools.
  • Set blade tensions, heights, and angles to perform prescribed cuts, using wrenches.
  • Remove housings, feed tubes, tool holders, or other accessories to replace worn or broken parts, such as springs or bushings.
  • Scribe reference lines on workpieces as guides for cutting operations, according to blueprints, templates, sample parts, or specifications.
  • Turn valves to start flow of coolant against cutting areas or to start airflow that blows cuttings away from kerfs.
  • Sharpen dulled blades, using bench grinders, abrasive wheels, or lathes.
  • Thread ends of metal coils from reels through slitters and secure ends on recoilers.
  • Hand-form, cut, or finish workpieces, using tools such as table saws, hand sledges, or anvils.
  • Preheat workpieces, using heating furnaces or hand torches.
  • Hone cutters with oilstones to remove nicks.
  • Select, clean, and install spacers, rubber sleeves, or cutters on arbors.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, twist, and transport product and materials short distances.
  • Basic understanding of computers and ability to perform computer functions as they pertain to the job.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively in a team-environment.
  • Ability to work safely and without injury with hand tools in an environment with metal and sharp objects.
  • Must have strong metal grinding, forming and basic fabrication background.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure online manuals.
  • Demonstrated detail orientation, self motivation skills and ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent at basic dimensional measuring and able to quickly learn the use of precision measurement tools.
  • Demonstrated competency in basic shop math.
  • Basic ability to read and understand blueprints and other shop drawing aids.
  • Ability to work with various types of metal forming constraints with guidance.
  • Previous experience with overhead crane use is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change.
  • Work in an efficient and timely manner
  • Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently
  • Demonstrated detail orientation, self motivation skills and ability to multi-task
