This role is a senior technical leadership position responsible for shaping and scaling mission-critical billing infrastructure that supports complex financial operations in a high-compliance, high-availability environment. You will act as a player-coach, guiding engineering teams while remaining deeply engaged in architecture, design, and hands-on problem solving. The position sits at the intersection of engineering, finance, and product, requiring strong collaboration across multiple business functions to translate strategic needs into robust technical systems. You will own the long-term roadmap for billing platforms, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and aligned with global financial and regulatory standards. In addition to leading modernization efforts across both legacy and modern stacks, you will drive operational excellence, performance optimization, and system reliability. This is a highly visible role where your decisions directly influence financial accuracy, compliance posture, and overall customer trust.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the design, development, and modernization of scalable billing systems and services, primarily using Java while supporting and evolving legacy components and polyglot environments.
  • Define and own the long-term technical architecture and roadmap for billing platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, cost efficiency, and maintainability across distributed systems.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Product, and Engineering teams to translate complex billing and financial requirements into clear technical specifications and system designs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with SOX and PCI-DSS standards by implementing secure, auditable, and resilient financial data processing and storage practices.
  • Manage and mentor engineering teams by setting clear goals, establishing KPIs, conducting code reviews, and driving execution of complex cross-functional initiatives.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, system failures, and architectural challenges to ensure high availability and operational stability of billing services.
  • Establish engineering best practices, including CI/CD pipelines, testing standards, documentation, and operational monitoring frameworks.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and payment providers to ensure reliable and secure integration with billing and financial ecosystems.
Requirements:
  • 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in technical leadership roles driving architecture and cross-functional engineering initiatives.
  • Strong expertise in Java for enterprise-scale backend systems, with experience in Python and Node.js and exposure to maintaining or modernizing legacy systems such as VB6.
  • Deep knowledge of financial systems, including billing, payment processing, or ledger-based architectures, with strong understanding of SOX and PCI compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience designing distributed systems and leading architectural decisions across complex, multi-service environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor engineering teams, fostering growth, accountability, and high-performance delivery.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to operate in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and deliver structured technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating across engineering, finance, legal, and product teams.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience preferred.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary range of $125,000 – $177,500 USD annually
  • Annual performance bonus and potential equity participation (ESPP)
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage and wellness benefits
  • Flexible time-off policies and enhanced PTO packages
  • Fully remote work within the United States
  • Retirement savings support and financial planning benefits
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact, mission-critical financial systems
  • Career growth in a fast-evolving, high-compliance technical environment
