Job Title: Chemical Compounding Manager

Reports to: Executive R & D and Regulatory Manager

Department: Production

Classification: Salaried Exempt

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

The Chemical Compounding Manager leads the day-to-day operations and employees of the bulk compounding area. This role supervises and develops bulk compounding staff while maintaining hands-on involvement in batching, equipment use, and process execution. Ensure production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met, partnering with the Executive R&D and Regulatory Manager for escalations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department inclusive of staffing and production priorities.
  • Enforces GMP & Safety policies of the Company, ensuring compliance of direct reports.
  • Supervises, coaches, and supports Chemical Compounders, Utility Specialist, and support staff.
  • Leads shift meetings to communicate daily goals, objectives, and expectations to staff.
  • Handles discipline of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Conducts training, cross-training, and onboarding of new employees.
  • Ensures that all direct reports have completed required ISO training.
  • Supervise staff including managing time off requests, timecards and backing up duties of team members as necessary.
  • Addresses employee concerns and administers discipline as needed.
  • Conduct annual employee evaluations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all aspects of chemical compounding, working under strict QC measures and adhering to cGMP standards, safety policies, and company procedures at all times.
  • Maintain a safe and compliant working environment in alignment with company safety policies.
  • Plan and schedule daily compounding operations in partnership with the Executive R&D and Regulatory Manager.
  • Monitor productivity, efficiency, and output against targets.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and resolve process problems.
  • Ensure proper training completion and applicable cross training of direct reports.
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and readiness of compounding area.
  • Communicate equipment or maintenance needs to Plant leadership.
  • Produce batches by following formulas, SOPs, and quality standards.
  • Operate, clean, and sanitize compounding equipment and work areas.
  • Measure, transport, and stage raw materials accurately.
  • Maintain batch records and ensure proper documentation.
  • Provide samples to Quality and ensure specifications are met.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate material needs.
  • Verify batch accuracy and product quality prior to release.
  • Identify process improvements and efficiency opportunities.
  • Participate in capital improvement discussions and implementation.
  • Support departmental KPIs and operational goals.
  • Support audits, inspections, and documentation requirements.
  • Help staff achieve company goals by communicating expectations, planning, monitoring, and evaluating job results.
  • Attend monthly production/quality/R&D and maintenance huddles.
  • Participate in annual cycle counts.
  • Participate in goal setting and performance evaluation with supervisor.
  • Produce, conduct and participate in annual employee evaluations of Chemical Compounders and Utility Specialist.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English.

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in a compounding/blending environment.
  • Applicable and demonstratable supervisory experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, walk, stand, push and pull various items.
  • Ability to move around the warehouse.

Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily performed inside the building.
  • Exposure to loud noise levels, vibration, chemicals, dust, mechanical hazards, and moving objects or other vehicles.
  • May be exposed to cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions.
