Primary Purpose:
This position is part of the Water Oak Villa Operations Team, a resident-focused, high performance, high commitment work team that supports the Water Oak Villa purpose of “partnering with families in meeting the challenges of life”. The food service staff is responsible for making sure that quality food and beverages are served in accordance with Water Oak Villa Policies and Procedures and local food service regulations.
Qualifications/Skills Needed:
Experience in food preparation work in a service environment is preferred. Strong verbal and written communications skills are essential. Demonstrated support and understanding of the philosophy of Water Oak Villa and the five domains of health (physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and social) is required. A flexible work schedule is also a necessity. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language. Will need to be 18 years of age or older.
Requirements:Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Work with the entire Water Oak Villa team to build relationships and strong communication with residents and families to ensure adjustment to the community, identification of needs and problems, and the development of an appropriate plan of service for each individual resident.
- Responsible for the preparation and cooking of balanced, nutritious meals for all residents and associates, including those served at special events.
- Check menus daily for any required advance preparation.
- Responsible for portion control, following the menus, and plate presentation for each meal.
- Assist in serving meals and tray preparation for residents as required.
- Participate in food and equipment inventory as assigned.
- Assist in removing dishes and trays from the dining room.
- Clean the dining room, tables, chairs, floors, etc.
- Clean food preparation area, including utensils used and equipment; wash dishes, take out trash, mop floors.
- Ensure that all electrical and gas appliances are turned off before leaving the kitchen area and at the end of a shift.
- Responsible for locking and securing the kitchen area before leaving that area and at the end of a shift.
- Responsible for the daily cleaning and weekly deep cleaning of the kitchen dish room, pantry and dining room.
- Cook to follow recipes according to Water Oak Villa standards.
- Carry out special duties or projects as assigned.
Physical Demands:
This position is classified as HEAVY, requiring exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift/move objects. Functional requirements including constant standing and walking. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, turning and stretching. Finger and hand dexterity required. Visual and hearing acuity along with the ability to understand and carrying out written and oral instructions are essential. The ability to perform basic mathematical computations is required.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
- The evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Meet general health requirements set forth by the policies of the organization, which may include a medical and physical examination.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, turning, and stretching.
- Finger and hand dexterity required.
- Visual and hearing acuity is essential.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions necessary.
