Description:

Under the direction of the Director of Student Services, the Paraprofessional at The Foundation for Hispanic Education (TFHE) is responsible for supporting students throughout their academic journey. This role works closely with teachers, students, and staff to provide individual and small group support within the general education classroom setting. The Paraprofessional delivers aided instruction to students with disabilities and learning differences, helping to ensure equitable access to learning for all students. Flexibility is essential, as daily tasks may vary based on the needs of individual students and classrooms.

The Paraprofessional will support the instructional and educational goals of students with learning disabilities within a general education classroom setting. Working under the direction of a certificated teacher, the Paraprofessional will provide instructional assistance, implement accommodations, and deliver individualized support as needed. Responsibilities also include a variety of student-centered tasks to enhance learning, promote engagement, and foster an inclusive educational environment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist within the general education classroom and support the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Reinforce learning concepts introduced by the teacher through small group or one-on-one instruction.
  • Modify classroom materials and activities under teacher guidance to meet students’ individual learning needs.
  • Support students in accessing and engaging with the general education curriculum.
  • Prepare instructional materials and organize resources as needed to facilitate learning.
  • Assist in implementing Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) and positive behavior support strategies.
  • Redirect and de-escalate student behaviors using trained techniques.
  • Model and encourage appropriate social behaviors and coping strategies among students.
  • Support students with daily living tasks as necessary.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, on school grounds, and during transitions to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Assist with adaptive equipment and assistive technology as required.
  • Maintain open and respectful communication with administrators, teachers, specialists, and support staff.
  • Provide feedback and observations regarding student progress and behavior.
  • Attend all staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Participate in meetings and training related to student support and professional growth. May be required to attend in-service trainings, workshops, school events, and other activities.
  • Record student performance data and behavior logs as directed by the case manager and/or Director of Student Services.
  • Track progress on IEP goals and behavior plans when assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Set up and maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Report to and be evaluated by the Director of Student Services or designee.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with or ability to work effectively with high school students
  • Strong background in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) preferred
  • Previous experience supporting students in special education
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
