Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Supervisor Mill Operations is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of mill processing activities to achieve production, recovery, concentrate quality, and cost targets. This role directs day-to-day concentrator operations while ensuring compliance with company policies, MSHA regulations, environmental standards, and operational procedures.
The position provides leadership and oversight for Processing Production Technicians and coordinates closely with maintenance, metallurgy, tailings, and mine operations teams to maintain reliable plant performance. The Supervisor Mill Operations supports workforce development, operational planning, maintenance coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processing operations and meet departmental KPI objectives.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure all employees and contractors work in compliance with company safety policies, MSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and standard operating procedures.
• Workforce Leadership: Supervise, coach, and mentor Processing Production Technicians while promoting accountability, teamwork, and safe work practices.
• Training & Development: Ensure employees are properly trained and qualified for assigned tasks; coordinate with the Processing Training Coordinator to support workforce development and operational readiness.
• Performance Management: Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, and support employee growth and development.
• Production Execution: Direct daily mill processing activities to achieve production targets, concentrate grade, recovery, quality, and cost objectives.
• Operational Coordination: Work closely with the Control Room Supervisor and cross-functional departments to establish operating priorities and execute production plans.
• Resource Planning: Ensure appropriate manpower, equipment, and operational resources are available to support planned activities and production requirements.
• Process Optimization: Identify operational improvement opportunities and implement best practices to improve plant performance, efficiency, and reliability.
• Maintenance Coordination: Coordinate operational and maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Planning & Scheduling: Review and support short-term and long-term maintenance plans, including shutdown and down-day planning activities.
• Reporting & Documentation: Ensure operational data is accurately captured and support the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
• Budget & Cost Control: Support departmental budgeting activities and manage operational execution within approved cost parameters.
• Labor Relations: Maintain compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and support positive labor relations within the department.
• Continuous Improvement: Support implementation of operational programs, systems, and initiatives that improve departmental performance and business processes.
• Leadership Expectations: Demonstrate behaviors aligned with company values, including accountability, operational excellence, responsible work practices, and results-driven performance.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required
• Minimum three (3) years of concentrator or mill operations experience in a production environment
• Strong working knowledge of mineral processing operations, production practices, and operational procedures
• Experience supervising or coordinating operational activities in an industrial or mining environment
• Working knowledge of safety regulations, operational compliance requirements, and safe work practices
• Experience coordinating with maintenance and operational support teams
• SAP experience
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English
Preferred
• Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and operational experience
• Experience in a unionized mining or processing environment
• Experience with production reporting and operational KPI tracking
• Knowledge of continuous improvement and operational efficiency practices
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Work is performed in mill, mine, concentrator, and tailings environments
• Combination of office and field work, with approximately 75% field exposure and 25% office work
• Regular walking on uneven ground and industrial surfaces
• Frequent climbing of stairs and access structures
• Exposure to noise, dust, vibration, heat, and changing weather conditions
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in operational areas
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during inspections and operational oversight activities
All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required.
