About the Role:

The Millwright Apprentice role is designed to provide comprehensive hands-on training and development in the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. This position serves as an entry point into the skilled trade of millwright work, where the apprentice will learn to interpret blueprints, use precision measuring instruments, and apply mechanical principles under the guidance of experienced journeymen. The ultimate goal is to develop the technical expertise and problem-solving abilities necessary to ensure machinery operates efficiently and safely within various industrial settings. The apprentice will gain experience working with a variety of tools and equipment, contributing to the smooth operation of manufacturing and production processes. This role is critical in building a foundation for a long-term career as a certified millwright, supporting the infrastructure of industrial facilities across the United States.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical concepts and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting heavy objects and working in confined spaces.
  • Strong commitment to safety and following established procedures.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience or coursework in mechanical, industrial, or technical fields.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Basic math skills including measurement and geometry.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings or blueprints.
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or related vocational training.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the installation, alignment, and assembly of machinery and mechanical equipment according to specifications and blueprints.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as lubrication, cleaning, and inspection of equipment to prevent breakdowns.
  • Support experienced millwrights in troubleshooting mechanical issues and performing repairs.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively under supervision.
  • Participate in safety meetings and adhere to all workplace safety protocols and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time and to quality standards.

Skills:

The required and preferred skills are essential for daily tasks such as assembling and aligning machinery, where precision and attention to detail are critical. Mechanical aptitude and the ability to interpret technical drawings enable the apprentice to understand complex equipment and follow installation instructions accurately. Proficiency with hand and power tools is necessary for performing maintenance and repair work safely and efficiently. Strong communication and teamwork skills facilitate collaboration with experienced millwrights and other tradespeople to solve problems and complete projects.
