Senior Quality Assurance (QA) Software Engineer in Starkville, Mississippi at Camgian Corporation

Camgian is hiring a Senior QA Software Engineer to join our team in Starkville, MS. This is a hands-on technical leadership role reporting to Camgian's Quality Assurance Director. You will lead the design, implementation, and execution of manual and automated test strategies for software, firmware, and hardware across Camgian's product lines while remaining active in code, automation, and difficult defect investigations. We are particularly interested in an engineer who built a strong foundation as a software developer and deliberately chose to focus on software quality because they value the investigative, systems-oriented work of testing. You will enter a developing QA organization and will be expected to quickly assess its people, practices, coverage, and tooling; coach team members who demonstrate aptitude and commitment; and partner with the QA Director to close remaining capability and staffing gaps. This position offers the opportunity to work on state-of-the-art products supporting defense and industrial missions, in both office and outdoor environments. Camgian builds AI-enabled decision automation and cognitive computing platforms including kill chain automation, sensor fusion, and air and missile defense capabilities to deliver real-time, mission-critical intelligence to warfighters and industrial operators. Success will be measured by earlier defect detection, expanded reliable automation, fewer escaped defects, repeatable release evidence, and a stronger, more capable QA team.

Qualifications

• United States Citizen
• 7+ years of combined software development and QA/software test engineering experience, including at least 3 years focused on quality/test and experience operating at a senior or technical-lead level
• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
• Demonstrated foundation as a hands-on software developer, with evidence of designing, coding, debugging, and shipping production software before moving into or expanding responsibilities in QA and software test engineering
• Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Appium, pytest, TestNG, Robot Framework)
• Strong proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, C#, C++, or Go), with the ability to read and debug production code and build maintainable test automation, simulators, and internal tooling
• Experience in integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps)
• Experience with API testing and tooling (e.g., Postman, REST Assured)
• Strong working knowledge of the full software development lifecycle and Agile/Scrum methodology
• Experience testing across multiple platforms and form factors (Android, Windows, embedded/firmware, cloud computing, laptop/handheld/tablet hardware)
• Demonstrated ability to assess, mentor, and raise the performance of junior and mid-level QA engineers, supported by specific examples of improved team capability or delivery outcomes

Desired Skills

• Experience testing embedded systems, firmware, or hardware in a defense, industrial, or aerospace context
• Familiarity with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr, Jira)
• Experience with performance, load, or stress testing tools and methodology
• Working knowledge of security testing principles and secure coding practices
• Experience standing up or materially improving QA processes, automation frameworks, and team practices for a new or developing product line
• Active or previously held security clearance

Key Responsibilities

• Define and own QA test strategy, test plans, and evidence-based release criteria for new and existing software, firmware, and hardware product lines, in partnership with the QA Director
• Design, code, review, and maintain automated test suites, simulators, and frameworks for regression, functional, integration, and system testing across Android, Windows, embedded, and cloud platforms
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous, repeatable quality gates with actionable failure diagnostics ahead of release
• Lead source-level investigation of complex software and firmware defects: create reproducible test cases, capture debug output and stack traces, inspect production code, and drive root-cause analysis with development teams
• Validate bug fixes and provide evidence-based release-readiness recommendations and QA sign-off for software and firmware revisions
• Rapidly assess team members' technical skills, role fit, and development needs; establish clear expectations and individualized coaching plans; review their work; and advise the QA Director on staffing or role changes needed to close persistent gaps
• Evaluate user interface and user experience implementations, providing structured feedback to development teams
• Own test-result reporting, quality metrics, release documentation, and requirements traceability; maintain an auditable repository of software and firmware release evidence and artifacts
• Perform laboratory and field testing to validate system performance against requirements
• Establish and track quality measures such as automation coverage, escaped-defect rate, test flake rate, time to detection and resolution, and release readiness; use the data to prioritize process and tooling improvements
• Lead execution and continuous refinement of the production test QA process
