Rosie’s Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunities, and find security in their lives.

Over the years, we have become much more than a shelter. We are a multi-service community center that not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for thousands of women a year through wide-ranging support, housing, and education services. Rosie’s Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding.

OPPORTUNITY

The Director of Community Engagement oversees community involvement at Rosie’s Place including volunteer services, partnerships and outreach. With the goal of building organizational capacity, this role provides strategic vision and direction to the community engagement team to leverage community support to further the Rosie’s Place mission.

Reporting to the Chief External Relations Officer, the Director of Community Engagement leads efforts to create transformative service-learning experiences that inspire social justice action.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide strategic leadership to volunteer management, service-learning and social justice educational activities.
  • Orchestrate an integrated communication plan for various audiences involved in community engagement activities.
  • Oversee identification and implementation of partnerships with human service, corporate, faith-based and school groups that encourage deeper connections with Rosie’s Place.
  • Direct Rosie’s Place community outreach efforts including tours, presentations and representation at events and fairs.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to develop a deep understanding of Rosie’s Place mission and programs and communicate the organization’s impact effectively to donors an stakeholders.
  • Stay current on emerging trends, best practices, and innovative approaches in community engagement and volunteer management, and identify opportunities to strengthen volunteer engagement and program effectiveness.
  • Evaluate and implement service delivery models to adapt to the evolving needs.
  • Champion diversity, equity and inclusion within all aspects of the Community Engagement programs.

Administrative Leadership and Team Management

  • Supervise, support, and develop staff, ensuring regular individual and team meetings and annual performance reviews.
  • Provide consistent guidance and leadership that fosters professional growth and accountability.
  • Lead the development and ongoing management of the Community Engagement program’s budget.
  • Ensure staff receive targeted training and professional development to meet individual and program needs.
  • Oversee staffing and coverage for Community Engagement programs.
  • Ensure accurate database records and generate required reports as needed.
  • Uphold confidentiality and safeguard donor privacy.
  • Develop and report on program metrics through regular quarterly updates, and as requested.
  • Represent Rosie’s Place in the broader community, reflecting our values in all interactions
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief External Relations Officer.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fundraising operations, database management, or nonprofit development (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • At least 3 years of experience supervising staff, with demonstrated success in team leadership and performance management.
  • Deep commitment to social justice and the mission of Rosie’s Place.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and sound judgment, with the capacity to navigate complex and sensitive situations with diplomacy, professionalism, and composure.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Volgistics or other volunteer management systems required with experience in database management, reporting, data integrity and systems oversight.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and support a diverse team.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and collaborative team member with a proactive work ethic.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job is performed in an office environment. Day-to-day work includes paper and computer work as well as interaction with staff, guests, and volunteers. The position may require travel between facilities or community locations.

WORK EXPECTATIONS AT ROSIE’S PLACE

We are a hands-on team and seek employees who are passionate about our work and service to our community. The Director of Annual Fund is a full-time, exempt position. While the Director of Annual Fund is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, they must work on-site at Rosie’s Place during part of their work week and engage regularly with staff, guests, and volunteers. They are also expected to be flexible with their in-person days to participate in organization events and other work obligations. This position may require travel between Rosie’s Place facilities and community locations.

We adopt safety protocols related to public health as we understand them, which all employees must follow. Among these protocols, we require all employees to be up to date with their yearly vaccinations. Requests for exemptions are considered.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The starting salary range for this position is $110,000­—$130,000 commensurate with experience. Rosie’s Place offers a robust benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, pension contributions, paid vacation, and more.

SCHEDULE

Monday through Friday

Availability to attend occasional evening meetings and weekend events as required.
