Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Cloud Network Engineer based in United Kingdom.
You will join a remote-first infrastructure engineering environment where networking is a mission-critical foundation for global systems spanning data centers, public cloud, Kubernetes, and bare-metal platforms.
The role is deeply hands-on, combining architecture, implementation, and operational ownership rather than high-level design alone.
You will be responsible for building and maintaining resilient, secure, and observable hybrid networking across complex distributed environments.
The position requires close collaboration with senior infrastructure, SRE, and security teams to ensure reliable cross-system connectivity.
You will actively participate in production changes, incident response, and continuous improvement of network reliability and automation.
This is a high-impact role where your work directly shapes system stability, scalability, and operational excellence across global infrastructure.
You will take full ownership of hybrid network design, operations, and reliability across distributed infrastructure environments, ensuring systems remain secure, observable, and highly available.
- Design, implement, and operate cross-data-center and cloud network connectivity using BGP, IPsec, routing policies, firewalling, DNS, and provider networking.
- Build and maintain resilient networking across cloud, Kubernetes/Talos, OpenNebula, and bare-metal environments with high availability principles.
- Own end-to-end network change lifecycle including design, risk analysis, implementation, validation, rollback planning, and post-incident documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production networking issues involving Linux networking, routing protocols, VPNs, MTU/MSS, NAT, and packet-level behavior.
- Improve network automation, observability, and repeatability through Git-based workflows, scripting, infrastructure-as-code, and monitoring systems.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation including topology diagrams, runbooks, IPAM data, disaster recovery plans, and operational guides.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and platform teams to ensure safe, scalable, and efficient network operations.
You should bring strong production networking expertise and a deep understanding of hybrid infrastructure environments, with the ability to operate confidently in high-availability systems.
- Extensive experience in production networking environments where uptime, scalability, and reliability are critical.
- Strong expertise in BGP, routing policies, traffic engineering, failover mechanisms, and network troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with IPsec VPNs and site-to-site connectivity solutions (e.g., strongSwan or equivalent).
- Deep Linux networking knowledge including iproute2, tcpdump, nftables/iptables, conntrack, DNS behavior, and MTU/MSS tuning.
- Solid understanding of datacenter networking concepts such as VLANs, LACP, switching, firewalls, and physical infrastructure constraints.
- Experience with cloud networking (VPC/VNet, routing tables, security groups, NAT, load balancing, and provider limitations).
- Kubernetes networking knowledge including CNI, service networking, ingress, network policies, and packet-level debugging.
- Experience with network observability, performance analysis, telemetry, and incident-driven diagnostics.
- Familiarity with network security practices including segmentation, least privilege, firewall lifecycle management, and secure change control.
- Ability to automate infrastructure using tools such as Terraform/OpenTofu, Ansible, APIs, and Git-based workflows.
- Strong written communication skills for documentation, incident reporting, and asynchronous collaboration.
- Comfortable making sound technical decisions under uncertainty with attention to blast radius and risk control.
- Fully remote work with flexible working hours
- Competitive compensation package aligned with experience
- Paid vacation, national holidays, and unlimited sick leave policy
- Private medical insurance support or reimbursement
- Budget for learning, certifications, and professional development
- Co-working space and wellness (gym/sports) reimbursement
- Opportunity to contribute innovative ideas with potential recognition or rewards
- Exposure to large-scale, complex, and modern hybrid infrastructure systems
