Job Description

Senior HR Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior HR Manager based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to take full ownership of HR operations within a fast-paced, technology-driven organization.
You will serve as the hands-on engine behind the People function, balancing strategic thinking with highly effective day-to-day execution.
From recruiting and onboarding to employee relations, benefits, compliance, compensation, and performance programs, you will own critical employee lifecycle processes.
You will work closely with Finance, Legal, IT, leadership, and external providers to ensure HR operations remain accurate, compliant, and employee-focused.
As a highly autonomous HR professional, you will identify operational gaps, streamline workflows, and proactively build solutions that support a growing distributed team.
The role combines operational rigor with empathy, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate sensitive employee matters with confidence.
This is an opportunity to shape scalable people practices while making a meaningful impact in a collaborative and rapidly evolving environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Own end-to-end recruiting for key positions, partnering with team leaders to define roles and establish structured, effective interview processes.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive onboarding programs that help new employees integrate quickly and become productive within the organization.
  • Manage multi-state payroll operations in partnership with Finance and external payroll providers, ensuring accuracy and maintaining strong data integrity across HR systems and employee records.
  • Administer health and employee benefits, including vendor relationships, annual open enrollment, and ongoing employee questions and support.
  • Coordinate HR and payroll matters for international employees in Italy through the relevant employment and payroll provider, ensuring clear internal ownership and access to appropriate local expertise.
  • Maintain and regularly update HR policies, employee handbooks, and related documentation while supporting compliance with federal, state, and local employment requirements.
  • Manage offboarding processes, including state-specific requirements, exit interviews, and related administrative workflows, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Design, launch, facilitate, and track recurring employee performance review cycles and related workflows.
  • Support compensation cycles, salary benchmarking, and related processes to help maintain competitive and consistent compensation structures.
  • Partner with leadership to monitor team health, facilitate engagement initiatives, and organize activities that strengthen relationships across a distributed workforce.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations for a small San Francisco office, including vendors, supplies, workspace requirements, and occasional onsite support.
  • Identify opportunities to use AI thoughtfully to improve HR processes while maintaining appropriate confidentiality, accuracy, human oversight, and professional judgment.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and leaders, providing clarity, empathy, and structure when navigating sensitive employee relations matters and organizational changes.
  • Proactively identify policies, workflows, or people processes that require improvement and independently drive solutions from planning through execution.

Requirements:

  • 6–8 years of hands-on HR or People Operations experience, ideally within a fast-paced technology startup or SaaS environment.
  • Demonstrated success operating as a highly autonomous HR professional who can own processes end-to-end and move initiatives forward without extensive supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state employment and labor compliance, benefits administration, payroll operations, and core HR processes.
  • Practical experience with modern HR technology and collaboration tools, such as Rippling and Slack.
  • Strong ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, IT, leadership, and external HR service providers.
  • Exceptional emotional intelligence and sound judgment when handling confidential or sensitive employee relations matters.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain operational accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust and communicate clearly with employees and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, improve, and implement scalable HR processes and workflows.
  • Interest in applying AI thoughtfully to HR operations while understanding the importance of confidentiality, accuracy, human review, and responsible judgment.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and resourceful mindset suited to a rapidly evolving organization.
  • Ability to work remotely within the United States, with a preference for candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to the San Francisco office based on business and team needs.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship or visa transfer.

Benefits:

  • Annual salary of $150,000–$180,000 for candidates in San Francisco and New York.
  • Annual salary of $135,000–$165,000 for candidates in Colorado and other U.S. locations.
  • Equity for full-time U.S.-based employees.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% of employee premiums covered.
  • 401(k) plan.
  • Up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Monthly wellness reimbursement.
  • Flexible time off.
  • Company-paid life insurance.
  • Company-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • Company contribution toward a Health Savings Account (HSA).
  • Medical and dependent-care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).
  • Opportunity to take significant ownership of the HR function within a growing organization.
  • Remote work within the United States, with occasional travel to the San Francisco office as needed.
