Senior Maintenance Technician in Charlottesville, Virginia at University of Virginia Foundation

Assists Senior Property Manager and Facilities Manager and Asset Managers in performing maintenance, and repairs on certain properties owned by the UVA Foundation. The varied portfolio includes commercial, residential and farm properties. Proficient in maintaining mechanical equipment and utility systems using one or more trade skills (e.g., electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry); prepares and maintains records of completed maintenance repair work; and maintains current knowledge of applicable procedures and related safety matters. The position requires ability to work independently and communicate effectively with customers and team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Performs a variety of building and grounds maintenance tasks. Conducts periodic inspections of properties to determine if repairs are needed and to ensure all fire/life/safety equipment is in good working condition.
• Performs basic carpentry, painting and landscaping as needed.
• Operates and maintains equipment and machines to perform general maintenance tasks.
• Trouble shoots building equipment problems and arranges and manages third-party vendor repair services, as necessary.
• Ability to estimate quantities and required materials for repairs and renovations.
• Manage renovation projects under $25,000. Assist in scope development, solicit bids, supervise contractors and provide hands-on building services as needed to complete renovation.
• Provides preventive maintenance and routine repairs to electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems.
• Provides emergency on-call services after hours and certain weekends.
• Familiarity with responding to work orders and communicating progress.
• Ability to work landscaping and mowing equipment.
• Assists Senior Property and Facilities Manager and other Foundation Staff as requested.
• Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor.

• Five years of commercial or residential experience in building maintenance or construction experience.
• Excellent attention to detail, responsiveness and follow-up skills. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license required.
