Compensation Manager Summary
The Compensation Manager serves as the organization’s primary compensation subject matter expert and a strategic advisor to Human Resources and organizational leadership. Reporting to the Director of Total Rewards, this role leads the day-to-day compensation function and is responsible for the design, administration, governance, and continuous improvement of compensation and recognition programs across the health system. The Compensation Manager provides leadership across a broad range of compensation and recognition programs, including base pay structures, market analysis, job evaluation and classification, job architecture, merit programs, incentive and variable compensation plans, recognition programs, compensation-related policies and practices, and other initiatives that support the organization’s Total Rewards strategy. This role translates market intelligence, workforce analytics, internal equity considerations, and organizational needs into competitive, equitable, sustainable, and scalable compensation solutions. Working collaboratively with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, HRIS, Finance, and organizational leaders, the Compensation Manager establishes compensation methodologies, decision frameworks, and governance practices that promote consistent and informed decision-making. The role provides guidance on complex and escalated compensation matters, proactively identifies compensation risks and opportunities, develops data-driven recommendations, and advances a strategic, analytical, and proactive compensation function.
Compensation Manager Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline required.
License and/or certification:
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation required
- SHRM and/or HRCI certification is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive professional compensation experience required, with direct experience in market pricing, salary structure development and administration, job evaluation, compensation analysis, and compensation program administration.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel required.
- Experience with HR information systems, compensation technology, market survey tools, and reporting or analytics platforms required. Experience with Workday, JDXpert, and/or Payfactors preferred.
Compensation Manager Schedule
- Primarily day shift, Monday through Friday
- Evenings and weekends may be required as needed.
