Schedule: Full-Time; may include evenings, weekends, and holidays; on-call rotation as needed
Position Summary
The Engineering Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general upkeep, repair, and preventive maintenance of the resort's hotel buildings, guest rooms, common areas, and grounds-adjacent infrastructure. This role supports the day-to-day operational readiness of guest-facing and back-of-house facilities, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained property. This position is not responsible for the resort's geothermal hot springs, pool chemistry, or bathhouse mineral-water systems, which are managed by a separate specialized team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on hotel guest rooms, corridors, lobbies, meeting spaces, and public areas
- Respond promptly to guest room work orders (e.g., HVAC issues, plumbing leaks, electrical fixtures, door hardware, furniture repair)
- Troubleshoot and repair minor electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry issues within scope of certification/training
- Conduct scheduled inspections of building systems (fire/life safety equipment, lighting, HVAC units, plumbing fixtures) and log findings
- Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner using the property's maintenance management system
- Perform light carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and general handyman tasks
- Assist with seasonal preparation of hotel building exteriors (e.g., gutters, walkways, snow/ice mitigation on building entries)
- Support setup/breakdown and maintenance needs for banquet, meeting, and event spaces
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe engineering shop and storage areas
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, PPE use, and chemical handling (SDS compliance) for non-pool-related materials
- Escalate specialized repairs (major electrical, structural, elevator, or geothermal/pool systems) to appropriate licensed contractors or the pool/hot springs team
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours guest room and building emergencies
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering or Sr. Engineering Supervisor
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years of experience in hotel, resort, or commercial building maintenance
- Working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Strong customer service orientation when working in guest-occupied areas
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in varied indoor/outdoor conditions
- Valid driver's license
Preferred:
- Trade certification or vocational training in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC
- Prior experience in a hotel/resort engineering department
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- EPA 608 certification (HVAC refrigerant handling)
Work Environment
This role operates across indoor hotel spaces and outdoor building-adjacent areas at high altitude (Pagosa Springs, CO, ~7,100 ft). Position requires physical stamina, comfort working at heights (ladders/ANSI-rated equipment), and flexibility for seasonal weather conditions including snow and cold.
