Job Description

Description:

Our Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team is at the forefront of modern mechanical construction. By integrating BIM, 3D coordination, and advanced prefabrication workflows, we directly optimize ductwork, piping, and mechanical layouts to ensure maximum efficiency, accuracy, and safety on every project.

As a Mechanical/HVAC VDC Specialist, you will bridge the gap between technical modeling and physical mechanical systems. Operating with a high degree of independence, you will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and superintendents throughout the project lifecycle to deliver high-quality coordination and fabrication drawings.

Key Responsibilities

  • BIM Modeling & Coordination: Develop and manage 3D BIM models for HVAC ductwork, piping, and mechanical equipment using Revit; perform clash detection and coordinate resolutions with other trades.
  • Fabrication Support: Produce precise prefabrication and spool drawings to support off-site fabrication of ductwork, piping assemblies, and mechanical racks.
  • Quality & Constructability: Conduct constructability reviews and internal QA/QC checks against contract documents; manage model updates, version control, and drawing issuances as design evolves.
  • Field & Laser Scanning: Assist with laser scanning of existing conditions, incorporating point cloud data into mechanical models and collaborating with superintendents for field verification and site logistics.
  • Estimating Support: Assist with quantity take-offs and modeling to support estimating for mechanical scopes during preconstruction.
  • Communication & Training: Maintain professional communication with engineers, subcontractors, and owners regarding coordination status; provide training and support to field and project staff on VDC workflows.
Requirements:
  • Experience with Revit (mechanical/HVAC modeling) and Navisworks for clash detection and coordination
  • Understanding of ductwork, piping systems, and mechanical equipment installation practices
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical contract documents, drawings, and specifications
  • Familiarity with construction documentation procedures (RFIs, submittals, contract documents)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on assigned projects
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with engineers, trade partners, and project teams

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with BlueBeam, Recap, Trimble Solutions
  • Experience with mechanical prefabrication/spool drawing production
  • Understanding of applicable mechanical, energy, and building codes
  • Experience coordinating on healthcare, industrial, or large commercial projects
  • 2+ years of related BIM/VDC experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field a plus, but not required with relevant experience
  • Experience with fire system layout and coordination a plus but not required.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work with an established VDC/prefabrication program supporting mechanical and multi-trade projects
  • Collaborative team environment with mentorship from experienced VDC and field leadership
  • Exposure to a wide range of project types — healthcare, industrial, commercial, and institutional
  • Career growth path toward senior VDC, coordination, or management roles

Schedule

  • Full-time exempt/salaried position with a core schedule of Monday through Thursday. Occasional Friday or weekend work may be required based on project deadlines and deliverables.
  • Occasional travel to jobsites throughout Upstate South Carolina and occasional neighboring states.

Salary:

  • Competitive pay depending on experience
  • Performance bonus

Benefits:

  • 401(k) matching
  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off
