Job Description

Personal Care Attendant (PCA)

Locations: Grand Prairie, TX | Arlington, TX | Crowley, TX
Schedule: Various Shifts Available

Position Summary

The Personal Care Attendant (PCA) provides direct care and support to clients in their homes under the direction of the Care Team Manager and in accordance with the established Aide Plan of Care. This position is responsible for assisting clients with activities of daily living, safe transfers, ambulation, personal care, and maintaining a safe and supportive environment.

The PCA documents care provided, reports changes in client conditions, and ensures continuity of care while adhering to HIPAA requirements, infection control standards, safety protocols, and all applicable agency policies and regulatory requirements.

This role requires working in a variety of home environments that may include limited accessibility, exposure to contagious illnesses, and varying living conditions. The position involves physical activity including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and assisting with client transfers. Flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and emergency coverage, may be required to meet client and agency needs throughout Dallas and Tarrant Counties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct personal care services to clients according to individualized care plans.
  • Support new clients who do not yet have a permanent attendant assigned.
  • Provide emergency backup coverage and prevent interruptions in client care services.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living, including mobility, transfers, personal hygiene, meal preparation, and light housekeeping.
  • Utilize durable medical equipment safely, including lifts, transfer boards, and gait belts.
  • Deliver hands-on client-specific assistance and support in the field.
  • Provide guidance, training support, and problem resolution for field staff as directed by the Care Team Manager.
  • Report and document client care, communications, incidents, and concerns accurately and promptly.
  • Document client complaints in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Communicate client needs, concerns, and personnel issues to the Care Team Manager in a timely manner.
  • Build positive relationships with clients, families, and colleagues through effective communication and professionalism.
  • Complete all required training and education programs.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection control practices, safety standards, and agency policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current Texas Driver's License required.
  • Current CNA or LVN certification preferred.
  • Current CPR certification preferred.
  • Current First Aid certification preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing personal attendant or caregiver services to individuals with a broad range of physical disabilities.
Skills & Competencies
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work compassionately with individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of Texas Administrative Code regulations related to Personal Attendant Services.
  • Experience using durable medical equipment, including:
    • Patient lifts
    • Transfer boards
    • Gait belts
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding client care.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and database systems.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Leadership and mentoring abilities preferred.
Transportation Requirements
  • Reliable transportation for multiple daily field visits throughout Dallas and Tarrant Counties.
  • Valid and current automobile liability insurance required.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed primarily in clients' homes and apartment settings.
  • Exposure to varying environmental conditions and potential contagious illnesses.
  • Regular physical activity including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, kneeling, and assisting with client transfers.
  • Use of kitchen appliances and household equipment during meal preparation and housekeeping tasks.
  • Flexible schedule availability, including evenings, weekends, and short-notice assignments, may be required.
