Pay: $70-80k, based on experience and qualifications.
Brothers Food Service is seeking an experienced Food Safety Manager to lead food safety and quality programs across our food distribution operations. This position helps ensure products are received, stored, handled, and distributed safely while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and company standards.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable working closely with warehouse, transportation, purchasing, and leadership teams to identify risks, resolve issues, and strengthen food safety practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, implement, and maintain food safety policies, procedures, and monitoring programs.
Oversee food safety practices throughout receiving, storage, product handling, loading, and distribution.
Conduct facility inspections and internal audits to identify hazards, verify compliance, and address deficiencies.
Monitor temperature controls, sanitation, employee hygiene, pest prevention, and practices that prevent cross-contamination.
Maintain accurate food safety records, training documentation, inspection reports, and corrective action logs.
Coordinate regulatory inspections, customer audits, and applicable third-party food safety audits.
Investigate product safety concerns and noncompliance issues, identify root causes, and follow through on corrective actions.
Coordinate product holds, traceability activities, and recalls when necessary.
Train employees and supervisors on food safety requirements and proper handling procedures.
Partner with purchasing and suppliers to address product quality and food safety concerns.
Work with warehouse and transportation leaders to maintain safe conditions in storage areas and delivery vehicles.
Keep food safety programs current as regulatory requirements and operational needs change.
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field.
At least three years of food safety management experience in food distribution, wholesale food operations, or food manufacturing.
Strong working knowledge of applicable food safety regulations, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
Experience conducting audits, maintaining compliance documentation, and managing corrective actions.
Ability to train employees and communicate food safety expectations clearly.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and address food safety concerns promptly.
HACCP training or certification and/or a recognized food safety manager certification.
Experience supporting SQF, ISO 22000, or comparable food safety programs.
Experience in refrigerated and frozen food distribution.
Familiarity with sanitation programs, cold-chain management, supplier verification, product traceability, and recall procedures.
Experience working with regulatory inspectors and third-party auditors.
This role requires regular time in warehouse, refrigerated, frozen, and loading areas, along with office-based documentation and reporting. The Food Safety Manager must follow facility safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
