Job Description
Building Automation Technician
-
JOB SUMMARY
-
The Building Automation Technician is responsible for developing operating parameters and sequencing, programing, operation, maintenance, monitoring, and integration of mechanical and electrical building systems that support our environment of care, life and safety fire detection and control systems, and security systems including access control, duress signals and video surveillance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
-
Experience:
-
Minimum of three years experience working with Building Automation Systems (BAS) in a healthcare, institutional, or complex commercial environment required.
-
Experience in an acute care hospital or Joint Commission–accredited facility preferred.
-
Experience supporting life safety system interfaces (fire alarm, smoke control, emergency power, security) preferred.

Education:
-
High school diploma or GED required.
-
Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, HVAC, Building Automation, Facilities Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
-
Formal technical training in BAS, HVAC controls, or low-voltage systems preferred.

Licensure & Certifications:
-
DRIVER - Valid driver’s license required.
-
Massachusetts Systems Technician or Electrician license preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
-
Required Skills and Training:
-
Working knowledge of building automation systems, including programming, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
-
Understanding of HVAC systems, electrical systems, and mechanical control sequences.
-
Ability to interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequence-of-operations documents.
-
Familiarity with life safety and environment of care requirements in healthcare settings.
-
Ability to respond to system alarms, failures, and environmental excursions in a timely manner.
-
Strong documentation skills, including change management and system records.
-
Effective communication with Facilities, Safety, IT, and clinical leadership.

Desired Skills and Training:
-
Knowledge of fire alarm and smoke control system interfaces with BAS.
-
Experience with security systems (access control, duress alarms, video surveillance).
-
Understanding of Joint Commission, NFPA, CMS, and state regulatory expectations.
-
Experience with trend analysis, energy optimization, and performance monitoring.
-
Basic networking knowledge related to BAS integration (BACnet, Modbus, IP-based systems).
