Assistant Project Manager

Location: Atlanta, GA

Gordon Highlander is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Assistant Project Manager to join our growing commercial construction team. This is an outstanding opportunity for a construction professional with 2 to 5 years of industry experience who is looking to accelerate their career while working on exciting commercial projects alongside experienced leaders.

As an Assistant Project Manager, you'll gain hands-on exposure to every phase of the construction process, supporting Senior Project Managers and Directors in delivering successful projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role offers excellent career development and the opportunity to grow into a Project Manager within a fast-growing, employee-owned company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the management of commercial construction projects from inception through completion
  • Support Senior Project Managers and Directors in all aspects of project delivery
  • Help manage project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Maintain project documentation, including contracts, RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, and closeout documentation
  • Coordinate communication between clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project teams
  • Participate in project meetings and provide timely follow-up on action items
  • Assist with project scheduling, procurement, buyout, and subcontractor coordination
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify potential risks or issues
  • Provide exceptional client service while building strong working relationships
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to overall project success

Qualifications & Experience

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in commercial construction or project management
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred but not required
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to learn new construction management software and systems quickly
  • Professional, client-focused attitude with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to retain and process a high volume of information while responding promptly to project needs
  • Experience supporting commercial ground-up and/or tenant improvement construction projects
  • Familiarity with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, or similar project management platforms
  • Understanding of construction contracts, project financials, and document control
  • Desire to build a long-term career in commercial construction management
