JOB DESCRIPTION
The Director of Marketing & Communications is the strategic leader responsible for creating Three Square's integrated marketing ecosystem and ensuring that every initiative advances the organization's mission through exceptional brand stewardship, strategic communications, fundraising support, advocacy, community engagement, and operational excellence. The Director provides organization-wide leadership across marketing, communications, digital strategy, public relations, creative services, and third-party partnerships, ensuring every initiative is strategically aligned, operationally disciplined, data-informed, and executed to the highest standard.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a high-performing marketing team through coaching, accountability, performance management, and professional development.
- Establish and reinforce a culture grounded in Strategic Alignment, Operational Discipline, Ownership, Quality Control, Innovation, Stewardship, and Message Clarity.
- Serve as Three Square's marketing authority, establishing priorities and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Partner across departments to align marketing resources with fundraising, programs, operations, advocacy, and executive priorities.
Strategic Marketing & Communications
- Develop and execute integrated marketing and communications strategies supporting fundraising, community engagement, advocacy, and brand awareness.
- Lead media relations, crisis communications, executive visibility, thought leadership, and organizational storytelling.
- Oversee executive communications, including Board presentations, speeches, presentations, messaging, and strategic reports.
- Ensure all content reflects a consistent organizational voice and brand.
Marketing Operations
- Own marketing systems that organize prioritization, production planning, workflow governance, documentation, and resource allocation.
- Manage external vendors, contracts, budgets, and performance expectations.
- Implement meaningful KPIs, dashboards, and reporting to evaluate marketing performance and organizational impact.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including AI and automation, to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Provide strategic oversight of Three Square's digital marketing ecosystem, ensuring digital platforms, website performance, accessibility, marketing technology, and user experience support organizational objectives and industry best practices.
Brand Stewardship
- Own Three Square's brand architecture, messaging hierarchy, editorial voice, visual standards, and campaign frameworks.
- Maintain organization quality assurance through review standards, approval processes, editorial accuracy, and first-pass quality expectations.
- Protect and strengthen organizational reputation across every public-facing channel.
Financial & Performance Accountability
- Develop and manage departmental budgets and agency contracts.
- Measure ROI across campaigns and investments.
- Provide regular executive reporting with actionable recommendations.
- Continuously improve systems, processes, and performance.
Measures of Success

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field
- 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, communications, or brand leadership.
- Experience leading teams, managing vendors, budgets, and organization marketing initiatives.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, written and verbal communication, executive presentation, and project management skills.
- Strong understanding of digital marketing, analytics, public relations, brand management, and marketing technology.
- Commitment to mission-driven leadership and continuous improvement.
Work Environment
- This is a fully in-office position; remote or hybrid work is not currently available.
- Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled office environment.
- Moderate noise levels are found in business offices.
- Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions when traveling between buildings or attending off-site meetings and events.
- May occasionally enter warehouse areas, with brief exposure to temperature variation, dust, and elevated noise levels from motorized equipment.
