Description:

The Residential Advocate plays a critical role in fostering a trauma-informed, healing-centered environment for clients residing at the Archway Safe House. This dual role provides daily support and mentorship to survivors of trafficking and/or exploitation while also serving as a CalAIM-aligned Community Health Worker, helping clients navigate systems of care, access resources, and build stability.

Part-time and full-time positions available. Schedule will include evening, night, and weekend shifts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide compassionate, strengths-based, trauma-informed support to residents throughout their healing journey.
  • Assist with daily living support, goal setting, and life skills development while modeling respectful, communal living.
  • Serve as a liaison between residents and health, behavioral health, and social service providers to ensure access to needed care and resources.
  • Support residents in scheduling, attending, and following through with medical, therapeutic, and community-based appointments.
  • Conduct routine wellness check-ins and contribute to care coordination efforts with case managers and clinicians.
  • Reduce barriers to care by offering culturally responsive and trauma-informed services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including shift notes, incident reports, and service tracking in alignment with Medi-Cal and CalAIM Enhanced Care Management (ECM) standards.
  • Ensure confidentiality, comply with HIPAA and mandated reporting requirements, and support quality assurance and reporting efforts.
  • Complete or commit to completing CalAIM Community Health Worker core competencies and training.
  • Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification and participate in ongoing education focused on trauma, de-escalation, and working with survivors of trafficking and exploitation.
  • Contribute to household upkeep including cleaning, meal prep, inventory, and general maintenance of a safe and supportive environment.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff through consistent communication, team meetings, and case staffing; assist with shift coverage, crisis management, and after-hours needs as required.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws governing assigned services, including those related to confidentiality
  • Knowledge of community resources and service agencies, including both private and other public agencies
  • Ability to find the needs and challenges for individuals and families accessing services, including cultural barriers
  • Understand and interact sensitively, effectively, and professionally with people and participants from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, ethnic, and professional backgrounds, including supervisors, managers, co-workers, other agencies, and members of the public
  • The ability to move between offices, supporting the household needs, along with two units in Transitional Housing, and two units in Shelter

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required, associate’s or bachelor’s in a human services field preferred.
  • Lived experience or professional experience in working with survivors of trafficking, exploitation, homelessness, or complex trauma.
  • Meets eligibility criteria for CalAIM Community Health Worker role or willingness to complete CHW training within 90 days.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (required at hire or within 30 days).
  • Strong communication, empathy, problem-solving, and boundary-setting skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean DMV record, and ability to pass a DOJ/FBI background check.
  • Successful completion of State approved Peer Certification Training
  • Satisfactory completion of One SAFE Place’s 66-hour domestic violence and sexual assault crisis intervention training (post-hiring requirement)
  • Two years of experience as a Peer Support Specialist or its equivalent, or a combination of professional and lived experience

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bilingual preferred, not required

Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Requires use of computer, tablet, phone and/or general office equipment
  • Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
  • Will require outreach, engagement, training and education to community partners or service providers
  • May travel for meetings, training, etc. as needed

Rate of Pay:

Full time, nonexempt

$20.00 - $26.00 per hour DOE
