Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff AI Cloud Engineer based in United States.
This is a senior technical leadership role focused on raising engineering standards across AI, cloud, infrastructure, and software systems.
You will combine hands-on engineering with architectural leadership, helping multiple teams design, build, and operate scalable production platforms.
The role offers the opportunity to shape engineering practices, establish practical technical guardrails, and guide complex system-design decisions.
You will work closely with Engineering Managers and senior engineers while remaining deeply involved in production code and technically challenging initiatives.
A major focus will be building and operating modern AI systems, including model integration, orchestration, retrieval, evaluation, and monitoring.
You will also help improve reliability, security, CI/CD, observability, and developer experience across the engineering organization.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced technical leader who thrives in high-growth environments and can influence teams through expertise, ownership, and execution.
- Define, evolve, and promote architecture and engineering practices across multiple engineering teams, ensuring standards remain practical and consistently adopted.
- Partner with Engineering Managers and technical leads on complex system-design decisions, architecture reviews, technical RFCs, and critical code reviews.
- Design, build, and ship production systems spanning AI applications, backend services, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and full-stack applications.
- Lead the development and operation of production AI systems, including model integration, inference, orchestration, retrieval, evaluation, monitoring, and related infrastructure.
- Establish reusable platforms, libraries, reference implementations, and standardized engineering patterns that help teams deliver efficiently and reliably.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, security, system reliability, and overall developer experience.
- Contribute directly to cloud infrastructure and help diagnose and resolve complex production and operational challenges.
- Establish effective release lifecycle practices and help teams transition from ad hoc feature development to scalable, robust engineering systems.
- Identify recurring architectural issues, technical duplication, and inefficient practices, then develop sustainable solutions that improve engineering velocity and operational quality.
- Mentor engineers through hands-on technical leadership, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback while helping raise the overall engineering bar.
- Work across teams without relying on formal authority, building alignment and driving technical initiatives from concept through implementation.
- Remain accountable for ensuring that engineering standards and technical guardrails continue to deliver value after they are introduced.
- 15+ years of experience in software architecture, engineering, or a closely related technical discipline, with a strong track record of designing and operating production systems.
- Experience as a founding or early-stage engineer in a startup or high-growth environment, with demonstrated ability to scale systems, processes, and engineering practices.
- Proven ability to influence multiple teams and drive technical decisions through expertise and collaboration rather than formal authority.
- Deep experience across AI systems, backend or distributed systems, infrastructure, and cloud architecture.
- Strong practical understanding of modern AI technologies, including foundation models, inference, retrieval, orchestration, evaluation, latency optimization, and cost management.
- Hands-on experience building and operating production software systems at scale, with a strong understanding of reliability and operational excellence.
- Strong full-stack engineering capabilities and experience working across multiple layers of modern software platforms.
- Proficiency with technologies such as Python, Go, TypeScript, Kubernetes, and major cloud platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, identify technical risks, and take ownership of complex initiatives from inception through delivery.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and build alignment among senior technical stakeholders.
- A hands-on leadership mindset, combining architectural thinking with a willingness to write production code and solve difficult engineering problems directly.
- Annual gross base salary range of $180,000–$225,000, plus variable compensation.
- Annual bonus eligibility for non-sales roles, based on factors including individual and company performance.
- Compensation determined using objective market benchmarks and adjusted according to relevant skills, experience, qualifications, education, and geographic location.
- Generous paid parental leave.
- Flexible time-off policies.
- Spending accounts to support employee needs.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Sabbatical opportunities after five years.
- Remote-first flexibility and a distributed working environment.
- Opportunities to develop technical and professional skills while contributing to innovative AI and cloud initiatives.
- A diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace that values authenticity and collaboration.
