This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Horizontal Directional Driller (HDD Operator) based in Canada.
This role involves executing precision underground drilling operations to support the installation and maintenance of critical utility and telecommunications infrastructure. You will play a key part in building and expanding underground networks by operating directional drilling equipment in a safe, efficient, and highly coordinated environment. The position requires strong technical ability in HDD operations as well as close collaboration with field crews to ensure accurate bore paths and successful conduit installation. You will work on active construction sites where safety, precision, and communication are essential to daily operations. This is a hands-on, field-based role that combines physical work with technical expertise and real-time problem-solving. You will contribute directly to projects that keep communities connected through reliable underground networks.
- Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment and locating tools to safely install conduits and underground utilities for telecommunications and infrastructure projects.
- Perform box locating, trenchless drilling, conduit installation, and setup of pedestals, vaults, and related underground structures.
- Coordinate drilling activities with ground crews, equipment operators, and signal teams to ensure safe and efficient site operations.
- Follow all health, safety, and compliance procedures, including CVOR and site-specific safety protocols, at all times.
- Handle construction materials, including loading, unloading, transport, and proper site organization and cleanup.
- Complete daily documentation, reports, and required operational paperwork accurately and on time.
- Respond effectively to hand signals, audio cues, and site instructions to maintain precision during drilling activities.
- Proven experience in horizontal directional drilling and locating within utility construction environments.
- Background in telecommunications infrastructure projects considered a strong asset.
- Valid AZ driver’s license with a clean driving abstract and CVOR record.
- Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision in fast-paced field environments.
- Physically capable of performing demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working at heights, confined spaces, and in all weather conditions.
- Strong awareness of safety practices and commitment to maintaining a safe job site at all times.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a coordinated field crew.
- Willingness to travel to various job sites and work in different field locations as required.
- Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $34.11 to $42.51, based on experience and qualifications.
