Role Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing Merit Coffee's day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy of financial records, reconciliations, and monthly reporting. This role oversees core accounting functions, supports the monthly close process, maintains internal controls, and serves as a key partner to operations leaders across the organization.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys building efficient processes, maintaining strong financial discipline, and leading accounting operations in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Oversight
• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and fixed asset tracking.
• Ensure accounting transactions are properly recorded and supported.
• Oversee monthly account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Support procurement controls by ensuring accurate coding and proper approvals.
Financial Reporting
• Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
• Research and explain variances, trends, and unusual transactions.
• Provide accurate and timely financial information to leadership.
Compliance & Audit Support
• Coordinate preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation.
• Partner with external CPA firms and auditors during review and audit processes.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
Inventory & Operational Collaboration
• Support inventory control processes and related accounting activities.
• Partner with café operations leadership to investigate inventory variances and discrepancies.
• Maintain fixed asset records and related controls.
Team Leadership
• Supervise accounting staff and prioritize daily workloads.
• Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities.
• Promote accountability and continuous improvement within the accounting function.
Outcomes & Measures of Success
• Accurate and timely month-end close.
• Reliable financial reporting.
• Well-maintained reconciliations and supporting documentation.
• Strong compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
• Effective partnership with operations and leadership teams.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience managing month-end close processes.
• Strong understanding of GAAP.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience supervising or mentoring employees.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in retail, hospitality, restaurant, or consumer goods industries.
• Experience supporting multi-location operations.
