Job Description

About Van's Aircraft
Van's Aircraft is the world's leading kit aircraft manufacturer, with more than 11,000 RVs flying worldwide. Since 1973 we've designed and built the RV line at our home at Aurora State Airport (KUAO) in Aurora, Oregon. Our builders put real care into their airplanes, and we hold our own fleet to the same standard.

Position summary
We're hiring an A&P mechanic to keep Van's company RV fleet airworthy, safe and ready to fly. You'll inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair the fleet aircraft that represent our product every time they leave the hangar.
This is a hands-on role with real ownership: you'll plan the fleet's maintenance, keep its records, and flag what you learn back to Engineering. If you've built an RV yourself, you already know these airplanes from the inside, and that experience will count.

Essential responsibilities
• Perform condition inspections, scheduled maintenance and repairs on the company RV fleet in accordance with each aircraft's operating limitations, Van's maintenance documentation and applicable FAA regulations.
• Maintain and troubleshoot Lycoming and Rotax powerplants and propellers: oil changes, compression and leak-down checks, ignition, fuel and induction systems, and engine removal and installation.
• Diagnose and repair airframe, landing gear, brake, electrical and avionics systems, including wiring faults and EFIS and autopilot squawks.
• Perform sheet metal and fiberglass/composite repairs to Van's quality standards.
• Keep accurate maintenance records and logbook entries; track inspection due dates, Van's service bulletin compliance and any applicable airworthiness directives.
• Plan maintenance around the fleet's flying schedule so aircraft are available when needed, and keep pilots and stakeholders informed of aircraft status.
• Prepare aircraft for demo flights, events and ferry trips, including fueling, ground handling and cleaning.
• Report recurring issues and lessons learned to Engineering, and help improve maintenance and builder documentation.
• Keep the hangar and shop safe, clean and organized, including tools, equipment and the parts inventory.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required qualifications
• FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic certificate.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience inspecting, maintaining and repairing piston-engine aircraft to accepted quality standards.
• Sheet metal fabrication and repair skills, plus working knowledge of fiberglass/composite repair.
• Aircraft electrical troubleshooting: reading schematics, using a multimeter, and building and repairing wire harnesses.
• Clear, accurate maintenance recordkeeping and a sharp eye for detail.
• Able to work independently with little supervision and balance priorities across several aircraft.

Preferred qualifications
• RV building experience: a completed RV, or substantial work on one. Experience across more than one RV model is a plus.
• Experience maintaining experimental amateur-built and/or light-sport aircraft, including condition inspections.
• Lycoming experience (O-360, IO-390, IO-540 series) and Rotax 912 iS experience; Rotax iRMT maintenance training.
• Experience with glass-panel avionics and autopilots, such as Garmin G3X Touch and Dynon SkyView.
• Pilot certificate, or a strong interest in earning one.
• Ability to explain technical procedures clearly in writing and with photos for builders.

Physical requirements and work environment
• Work takes place in an active hangar and shop, with seasonal temperatures, engine noise, fuel, solvents and composite materials.
• Regularly lift and move up to 50 lb, and push or tow aircraft with ground-handling equipment.
• Kneel, crouch, climb ladders and work in tight spaces, such as under instrument panels and inside fuselages and wings.
• Correctly select and wear required PPE, including eye, hearing and hand protection.
