Job Description
Job Summary:
The Monitor Technician performs under the direct supervision of the RN and is delegated assignments by the RN to achieve quality patient care. He/she is involved in the implementation phase of the nursing process and is directly accountable to the Patient Care Coordinator of the unit. The tech performs tasks assigned by the RN in an assistant role to the RN on the unit. These tasks require special training and competency validation through the education department. In addition the tech must be able to perform nurse aide duties if the RN needs dictate.
Performance Expectations:
- Operates telemetry equipment including but not limited to admitting and discharging a patient on cardiac monitoring system, change out batteries, apply monitor to patient, log boxes in and out for tracking, cleaning equipment per manufacturer’s instructions, and reporting any issues to assigned nurse and/or manager.
- Interprets cardiac rhythms and notifies RN of all abnormal rhythms other than patient baseline.
- Follows instructions for proper use and operation of equipment you are assigned.
- Respects patients and peers and maintains confidentiality.
- Operates scanner, fax and copier as needed.
- Communicates and interact with, care providers, team members, patients/families and visitors utilizing the We C.A.R.E philosophy.
- Interprets cardiac rhythms and complete assigned task for running strips and placing these on the charts, adding and removing patients to and from telemetry for cardiac monitoring.
- Utilizes excellent oral and written communication skills, with special emphasis on responding to telephone calls and call lights.
- Follow policy and procedure to properly identify patients and prepare patient armbands. ï‚· Documents and places orders in the hospital’s electronic health record for patient diets.
- Documents assigned task for completion of amount intake and output on a patient’s record in the electronic health record.
- Monitors floor stock supply levels and order supplies accordingly.
- Multitasks and prioritizes workload including keeping an accurate call light log ï‚· Follows procedure to keep track of special mattresses used for patients.
- Performs assembly and break down of charts.
- Ensures all discharged patients follow up appointments are made with follow up primary care provider and any ordered in addition for specialties at the time of discharge.
- Every Monday ensure all patients discharged on the weekend have follow up appointments with Primary Care Provider and are documented.
- Wipes down nursing station and all phones every shift and as needed with properly identified cleanser.
- If trained to do so, will be required to fill in as Nurse’s Aide (Job Description 1077NURSEADE) and Unit Secretary (Job Description 1077UNSECMNT) when staffing calls for it.
- Completes cleaning and maintenance log documentation on tele boxes.
- Perform excellent phone etiquette
- Performs entrance screening as assigned during emergency operations for a pandemic ï‚· Reports to work for assigned duties during an emergency operation incident.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills:
High School Diploma/GED required. Successful completion of Monitor Tech course and completion of forty hours of training with a current Monitor Tech.
Work Experience:
Nurse Aide or Monitor Tech experience preferred

Ability to perform as a team member, cooperate with others, follow directions precisely, demonstrate initiative, and function under stress. Multi task and follow up with all staff to ensure response to call light meets expected time frame to meet Patient’s needs.
