SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) Data Analyst/GIS Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) Data Analyst/GIS Specialist based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to transform complex infrastructure data into valuable insights that support safer and more efficient engineering projects.
The SUE Data Analyst/GIS Specialist will work at the intersection of geospatial technology, utility data management, and infrastructure development.
You will contribute to critical projects by ensuring the accuracy, quality, and usability of subsurface utility information.
Collaborating with engineers, survey teams, CAD professionals, and project stakeholders, you will help improve project outcomes and reduce risks.
The position combines technical expertise, data analysis, and coordination skills in a collaborative engineering environment.
You will play an important role in advancing innovative solutions through precise data management and geospatial workflows.

Accountabilities:

The SUE Data Analyst/GIS Specialist will be responsible for managing, validating, and coordinating subsurface utility engineering data throughout project lifecycles. This role requires strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver accurate and reliable project information.

  • Participate in project kickoff meetings to coordinate workflows, expectations, and data requirements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of SUE GIS databases and oversee GIS data collection processes.
  • Configure and manage project applications including Basecamp, Fulcrum, Bluebeam, and similar platforms.
  • Receive, process, organize, and validate field data collected through various software applications.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews on collected data and identify the need for additional field collection when necessary.
  • Provide project updates regarding data collection progress, accuracy, and potential issues.
  • Coordinate with survey teams to ensure proper utility data collection and provide necessary documentation packages.
  • Collaborate with CAD teams to support utility drafting, review deliverables, and ensure accurate representation of collected data.
  • Review project data, QA/QC results, and final deliverables to ensure compliance with client expectations.
  • Maintain organized project documentation, files, and supporting materials.
  • Stay informed on new applications, technologies, and equipment within the utility and geospatial industries.
  • Prepare and provide supporting documentation, including reports, test hole records, field sketches, and CAD files.
  • Coordinate with municipalities to obtain required certifications, permits, and approvals for SUE activities.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with experience in subsurface utility engineering, GIS data management, and technical project coordination. The role requires strong analytical abilities, communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in SUE or a closely related infrastructure, engineering, or utility data field.
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS is preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Fulcrum, and related project management or data collection tools.
  • Strong understanding of GIS workflows, utility data management, and quality control processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, survey teams, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to learn, apply, and share new technical skills and knowledge with team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for professional communication and technical documentation.
