Network Operations Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Network Operations Engineer based in United States.

The role focuses on designing and implementing advanced network automation solutions that improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
You will combine software engineering expertise with deep networking knowledge to modernize enterprise infrastructure management.
The position offers the opportunity to build production-grade automation workflows using Python, APIs, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD practices.
You will collaborate with engineering, operations, product, and business teams to solve complex technical challenges.

Accountabilities:

The Network Operations Engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining automation capabilities that enhance network operations across complex enterprise environments. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to translate technical requirements into reliable solutions while improving operational practices.

  • Develop and maintain network automation solutions using Python, modern APIs, and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.
  • Automate network configuration, change management, monitoring, and operational workflows across multi-vendor environments.
  • Design, implement, and support production-grade automation tools with strong software engineering practices.
  • Work with networking technologies including routing, switching, BGP, and enterprise infrastructure platforms.
  • Build and improve CI/CD workflows, testing processes, and Git-based development practices for automation projects.
  • Integrate network automation frameworks and tools to improve visibility, consistency, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to define and deliver effective solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and design reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across technical teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, scalability, and automation maturity.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of networking expertise, software development experience, and the ability to operate effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Networking, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in network automation or related engineering roles.
  • Strong Python development skills, including object-oriented programming, testing, and software packaging.
  • Deep understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, and BGP.
  • Hands-on experience with network automation frameworks such as Netmiko, NAPALM, Nornir, or Scrapli.
  • Experience working with network APIs including NETCONF, RESTCONF, and gNMI.
  • Strong knowledge of Ansible and Jinja2 templating for automation workflows.
  • Familiarity with source-of-truth platforms such as NetBox or Nautobot.
  • Experience with Git workflows and CI/CD practices.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver reliable solutions in a remote environment.
  • Preferred experience with Cisco DevNet or vendor automation certifications, multi-vendor networks, cloud networking automation, observability platforms, or open-source contributions.
