CCTV Camera Operator Assistant

Position Summary

The CCTV Camera Operator Assistant supports the Lead CCTV Camera Operator in the setup, operation, and breakdown of pipeline inspection equipment. This entry-to-mid-level field role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in underground utility inspection, with opportunities to advance into a Lead Operator position. Local and regional travel to job sites required; occasional overnight travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in loading, unloading, and setting up CCTV crawler equipment, cable reels, monitors, and generators at job sites.
  • Set up and maintain traffic control devices (cones, signs, barricades) in accordance with site traffic control plans.
  • Open, inspect, and secure manholes and access points; assist with confined space entry procedures as trained and certified.
  • Guide cable and crawler movement through pipe sections; assist operator with camera positioning and navigation.
  • Take field notes on site conditions, access issues, and pipe segment measurements to support accurate reporting.
  • Assist with routine cleaning, spoiling, and inspection of cables and camera equipment after each job.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site, including proper handling and disposal of debris or wastewater.
  • Support vac truck crews with hose handling, debris management, or traffic control when cross-assigned.
  • Follow all safety protocols, wear required PPE, and report hazards or incidents immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support crew productivity.
  • Must be reachable 24/7 for emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior labor, construction, utility, or field service experience helpful but not required; on-the-job training provided.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Willingness to obtain confined space entry and traffic control certifications.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with cables, hoses, and small equipment.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work as part of a two-person crew.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work around open manholes and excavation sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, or occasional nights/weekends based on client scheduling needs.
