We're seeking highly motivated individuals who are looking for a challenging but rewarding opportunity. The General Materials group is looking for a commodity specialist to join our team.
The Supply Chain Specialist I/II is responsible for supporting the sourcing, acquisition, and administration of very complex, high dollar equipment as a member of BIW’s Supply Chain General Matierals team. This position is built for highly motivated individuals who have an eagerness to learn and the ability to rapidly and accurately perform supply chain tasks for a variety of contract types. Activities include issuing RFPs, evaluating proposals, performing price analyses and negotiating, managing suppliers and often expediting material deliveries, and resolving receiving and/or invoice issues. This role requires completion of appropriate documentation for compliance with federal contract regulations (FAR, DFARS) and to align with departmental and company procedures.
Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Supply Chain Specialist I/II ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership:
- Actively participate in safety initiatives and lead by example.
- Prioritize safety, fostering a positive safety culture
Project Execution:
- Combine project management, business, and legal expertise to draft, evaluate, negotiate, and execute procurement and contract documents, including but not limited to terms and conditions, contract closeouts, extensions, and modifications.
- Ensure compliance with procurement and contract standards and requirements and engage in the appropriate support, as needed.
- Conduct direct negotiations with vendors, monitor vendor performance and review vendor invoices to ensure accurate billing.

- Be a continuous and active learner.
- Work to enhance current skills and take initiative to prepare yourself for future roles and career growth.
Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Coordinate procurement and contracts activities with project managers, legal counsel, vendors, and key agency stakeholders to ensure projects are defined, documented, completed on time, on budget, and meet stakeholder requirements.
- Manage and communicate issues and risks associated with assigned contracts to leadership.
Continuous Improvement:
- Ensure all procurement artifacts, as well as fully executed contracts, are properly recorded and entered into agency databases, and securely maintained.
- Monitor and report on budget and expenditures for associated contracts.
This is a hybrid role.
Responsibilities
Supply Chain Specialist I
- 1-2 years' experience with BS / BA Degree preferably in Business, Finance, or Supply Chain, or a related degree preferred and comparable work experience.
- 0-1 years' experience with MBA or Certification, or direct work experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Property Management or Lease Management.
Supply Chain Specialist II
- 2-4 years' experience with BS / BA Degree preferably in Business, Finance, or Supply Chain, or a related degree preferred and comparable work experience.
- 1-2 years' experience with MBA or Certification, or direct work experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Property Management or Lease Management.
Qualifications
- Ability to develop a command of complex contract terms in a short amount of time.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical decisions/strategies into business terms and implications. Ability to produce clear documentation geared to varied audiences.
- Ability to manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment.
- Solid project management and organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Positive and energetic with strong cross-functional team experience.
- Strong analytical problem-solving aptitude and financial acumen, including the ability to discuss and monitor associated budgets and expenditures.
- An excellent sense of humor and a high tolerance for uncertainty in the midst of shifting priorities.
