Job Summary

The Surgical NP/PA provides diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and preventative care, under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Assist the physician/surgeon in the global management of patient care in all perioperative settings including (but not limited to) General Surgery, and Urology.

The Surgical PA/NP will be part of a team that covers the following responsibilities on a rotating basis:

  • Assist licensed physicians/surgeons as 1st assistant in OR with patient surgery, both open and DaVinci robotic surgical cases. The Surgical PA/NP will handle routine problems related to the surgical patient in the perioperative setting. Will be expected to maintain surgical skills.
  • Post-operative care – Is responsible for assisting the surgeon with providing post-operative care including writing orders, communicating the care plan with family, and discharge planning.
  • Cover inpatient consults and daily rounds for General Surgery and Urology.
  • Day/Night/Weekend coverage as first call escalating to attending MD on call as required
  • Shifts are 12 or 24 hours long, totalling 36 hours per week.
  • The Surgical APP provides in hourse first call coverage 24/7, join a team of 5 experienced APP's.

Reports to: Chief of General Surgery

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate from accredited PA-C or APRN program

Current license or ability to obtain license to practice in the State of Rhode Island

Credentialing by the SCH Medical Staff

Work well independently in addition to being skilled in interdisciplinary collaboration

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with DaVinci surgical robot

Minimum of 3 years experience in one (or all) specialties under scope of position (General Surgery and Urology)
