Pipe Design Checker 1 in Walker, Louisiana at The Shaw Group, LLC

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review project scope, specifications, isometric drawings, bills of material, weld requirements, and customer requirements before checking assigned work.
• Examine spool drawings against client drawings, project specifications, line information, material requirements, and established fabrication practices.
• Verify dimensions, fittings, flange orientation, spool breaks, weld identification, material information, quantities, and other fabrication details.
• Identify errors, omissions, conflicts, or constructability concerns that could lead to shop delays, rework, or field fit-up problems.
• Clearly document and communicate required corrections to drafters.
• Review corrected drawings and confirm that identified issues have been resolved before the drawing is released.
• Follow department checking procedures and consistently apply project, company, and industry requirements.
• Use practical knowledge of pipe fabrication, shop capabilities, welding, non-destructive examination, heat treatment, coating/paint, and material traceability when evaluating drawings.
• Communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and maintain accuracy while working within project schedules.

Required Knowledge & Experience:

• Approximately three years of experience in the pipe fabrication field is preferred.
• High school education or equivalent is preferred.
• Working knowledge of pipe fabrication practices and shop requirements.
• Experience reviewing pipe spool drawings is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• AutoCAD knowledge is a plus.
• Familiarity with ASTM, ASME, and PFI codes and standards.
• Familiarity with different pipe materials and metallurgies.
• Basic understanding of welding procedures, non-destructive examination, heat treatment, and paint/coating requirements.
• Understanding of material traceability and its importance to fabrication documentation.
